I feel pretty sorry for Ed Dunlop- as Rory MacNiece said, he has the sword of Damocles hanging over his head for the next year and even if he keeps his veterinary medicine book meticulously and keeps the feed under lock and key with forensic cleaning of the buckets, he still can’t control what his staff do on a night out in a town that is snowed under with cocaine.

I think having a pee in the stables is an instant dismissal offence in some stables but I expect, to be as careful as possible, you’d need to pay for CCTV in every box plus the drugs testing of all staff. How much would that cost a trainer per year, I wonder.

I agree with you, green. Considering that the horses you are responsible for might have cost a few millions, the minimum you should have is CCTV.
If I’d be an owner with any trainer I’d like to know that as much as possible is done for stable security.

Sort of random but this Thread brought to mind a strange event at Newmarket that happened in the cooling down paddock after Blackbeard had won The Juddmonte.
The horses were being given a bucket of water to drink from colour coded buckets, a lad set down a bucket for Blackbeard to drink from but before he dipped his head in the water his lass came tearing across and like a flash threw the water from the bucket onto the grass before Blackbeard had a chance to drink a drop.
Maybe it was because of the risk of contamination as they probably brought his own water with them but if that lad with the water had taken cocaine and traces had got into the drinking water then Blackbeard would have lost the race for sure.

I like and respect Ed Dunlop and feel really sorry that this has landed on his doorstep. I hope they trace the culprits soon and resolve it for him. :rose: Jac
