March 13, 2014 at 10:04 #471427Apart from my Exactas & Trifectas, which I put on in the morning, yesterday was a long, eventful day, and missed all the racing, and didn’t get a bet on. First time I’ve missed any races as they happened for 25 years. Get Me Out Of Here repaid the faith, and with a few quid on at 33’s antepost, could have been so much better. Not quite the same watching a race unfold on a Betfair "in running" market, but seeing Baily Green suddenly go to 1000’s wasn’t great. Having now watched the race, definitely just making his move, and would have comfortably landed a place……at the least. Whether or not he’d have beaten SDG, who was a cracking winner, is somewhat debatable. Would have had £2 on Hawk High on BF, so avoiding what price he was available at, but that’s levelled out by dodging what would have been losing bets on Carlingford Lough, Vandross, Rathvinden, Wishfull Thinking, Yesyoucan, and Calculated Risk to go with Baily Green.
Anyway, the Thursday, along with the Tuesday, are my 2 favourite days of the week, and can’t wait for todays action.
JLT Novices
Djakadam, Double Ross
£1 Reverse Exacta
Double Ross hasn’t stopped improving this season, and providing the goings not too quick, he should get competitive. I’ll be attempting to land my 3rd exacta of the season with him. He goes in with my other fancy, Djakadam. Think this horse has got bags of potential, and he could have went close in the RSA had he taken that route. I just get the impression that they’re being careful with him, and didn’t want him having too hard a time of it in that race, which can leave it’s mark. Wouldn’t surprise me to see him emerge as a serious Gold Cup challenger next year. Certainly on my radar for that.Pertemps
Seefood, Jetson, Pateese
£1 Combination Exactas, Trifectas
I’ve had The Pertemps in mind for Jetson and Seefood for long enough now, and in what is obviously a very competitive race, I’ll actually be very disappointed if both aren’t near the frame. Jetson has clearly been trained with this race in mind all season, and as a result he remains on a handy mark for a race which he should have won last year, but for a poor ride. Seefood looked as if he was going chasing this year, a plan which never really convinced me. Thankfully that didn’t go to plan, and with Ruby Walsh jocked up, and the ground drying out, he’s a serious player. Pateese at 50’s really appeals from an each way perspective, especially with most firms paying 5 places. Claimer takes a handy few lbs off, and I’ve got have a go at that price. He’ll love this quicker going.Ryanair
Radjhani Express, Hunt Ball
£1 Reverse Exacta
50p Combinations with Medermit
I’ve thought for a while that Radjhani Express is potentially better than a handicapper, and he gets his chance to not make me look like a clown (again) today. I think, in time, he may need a step up in trip, and could see him being considered for The Gold Cup, and Aintree in future seasons. This race looks ideal for him, and he’s an attractive price. Hunt Ball rather divides opinions, but after his disastrous spell in The States, he shaped with a lot more promise on his return to these shores in the mud at Ascot last time. The ground here is more to his liking, and I give him serious place claims. Medermit ran in the same race at Ascot last time, and maybe didn’t show enough to suggest he could land this, but the stable are flying, and not totally out of the question that he can repeat his placing in this 2 years ago.Byrne Group Plate
Giorgio Quercus, Tap Night, Bennys Mist, Bless The Wings
50p Combination Exactas, 30p Trifectas
I put up Tap Night as a plot horse after The Paddy Power, and hopefully he can back up that theory by going close today. Originally I was more inclined towards The Grand Annaul for him, but as the seasons progressed, this has looked the more obvious target. Never a bad idea to keep an eye on Venetias runner in this race, and having watched Bennys Mist closely this season, he’s preferred over stablemate Shanghani. Giorgio Quercus has been kept quiet after his Kempton win last year, and with runner up Bally Legend having since won The Betbright Chase, he looks a strong contender. He also looks handily treated, for winning Jockey/Trainer combination from yesterday. 20’s is decent for him. Bless The Wings requires more of a leap of faith, but I think stable form, a step down in trip, and also a reducing mark gives him an each way squeak.Kim Muir
Really like Cause of Causes for this, and surprised to get 15-2 for him this morning on top of some bigger antepost prices on him. Think the horse could have a much higher profile this time last season. I’ll see how my day goes before having a pop at this race from a f/c t/c point of view…….so many to choose from, but narrowed down to Twriling Magent, Quinz, Roberto Goldback, Fine Parchment, Spring Heeled, and Balnaslow

March 13, 2014 at 20:37 #471583My worst Cheltenham ever thus far
Bloke in the Daily Mirror is doing very well so I think I’m going to back what he suggests. Only problem with that is that today one of my bets coincided with his and [you guessed it] it bombed.March 14, 2014 at 09:41 #471688That’s no good moe, I know that feeling, as last year was a loser for me…….think it was my worst as well. Much better this year, not that you need to hear that just now.
Isn’t that always the way, you follow someone, and then you feel as if you’ve missed the party, hopefully he can compensate you with a couple of winners today.
At least you have the consolation of having met Nathan, that’s got to have made your week…………good photo by the way, always good to put a face to a name.
Any strong fancies today, I quite like Lyvius in The County, NJH did me proud yesterday with Radjhani Express, and of course Venetia……..what about Dare Me, big price at 25’s. I bet him at Warwick last time, and I hope that wasn’t to have been his day.
March 14, 2014 at 10:26 #471702Oh good
Lyvius is on my list so you might want to change your mind
It was lovely to meet Nat; I just wish I could have found him again later; time goes by so quickly there. I did vet the photo; had it been like the one that found it’s way onto the Percy Hunt website I would have vetoed it!March 14, 2014 at 10:47 #471710lol….it’s a ladies perogative to vet all photos moe.
I’m happy with your fancy for Lyvius, you’ve no been far away this year
March 14, 2014 at 12:36 #471746One of my top rated horses in the 5.15 is Lancetto who is also a first time headgear horse. I’ve gone sentimental and backed my old mate Barizan as well in the hope that he sticks his old neck out a bit further this time; his second at the Festival a few years back still hurts
And I couldn’t resist backing Liam in the GC and also T43 because of the stable form and the fact that McCoy decided not to ride him
[although I backed Triolo last week]. Got to be honest here and say my memory[?] told me he’d won the Becher and not the Hennessy
