Sky Lantern has the best form, but has a big penalty and ran badly in Hong Kong. Needed her first run last season and I expect her to do so again.
Integral and Esoterique are closely matched on Newmarket form. I’d slightly favour the Stoute horse as she probably has the more improvement in her and not so well ridden at headquarters. However, didn’t expect the difference in the market to be so pronounced. So backed Esoterique as a main bet with a saver on Integral.
Also done Fiesolana as a main bet from an in form yard. Ran very well when 2nd to Purr Along on reappearance. Now 2 lbs better off with the winner for 1/2 length. Won the Challenge Stakes in Britain. There’s a possibility of good ground or softer suiting her, but has won on good-firm (at the time a career best). 18/1 under-estimates her chance. Old rival Purr Along isn’t out of it for Johnny Murtagh; but am a little more worried about the ground for her.
Backed Certify ante-post for the 1000 Guineas.
Might be ignored by punters, but would still be unbeaten but for getting worked up last time in Dubai. Almost refusing to go in the stalls. If temperament isn’t getting the better of her could run well, might be one for a late bet if keeping cool. Though she hasn’t got much scope for further improvement. L’Amour De Ma Vie won that race in Dubai, but ran poorly since.Annecdote won a handicap at this meeting and Goodwood at a big price (
) but needs to improve a good deal more here.Gifted Girl has been consistent before a poor run last time. Kenhope not in the same form as when 2nd to Sky Lantern in last year’s Coronation. Peace Burg won Prix De Sandringham in 2013 but ran awful last time for AOB.
One I like at a massive price is Princess Loulou for in form Roger Varian. Held by both Fiesolana and Purr Along on her third last time, but a career best effort – if progressing at the same rate might surprise a few if ground is not an issue. 66/1+ is worth a pound or ten.
Woodland Aria and Masarah look out of it.
