It’s fair to say Outlander’s Betfair run was an extreme scenario but he was still a bit disappointing that day. I thought in the conditions he would be the biggest danger to the favourite that day but in the end he was well behind a downgrading Cue Card and only just held off a Tea For Two whose eyes were knocking in his head coming to the last.
The Racing Post gave Djakadam 160 for his run in the Irish Gold Cup and that is his lowest rating with them since he recorded that same figure 22 months ago. The fact that he’s still managed to see Our Duke off despite his weakest performance in some time, makes me feel both Outlander and to a greater extent Our Duke, are some way short of what it will take to win at Cheletenham.
I’ll be laying Our Duke but it is reasonably open this year, with no cast iron runner.
