Willie Mullins will not run a top class mare in a ridiculously competitive big field handicap on just her 3rd start over fences. He’s not stupid enough to do that.
I reckon if Benue des Dieux makes Cheltenham she will run in the mares hurdle
January 31, 2018 at 18:02 #1340015Joe Chambers (Ricci racing manager) replied to me saying she has a different race lined up along the line so we will see what that is….havent had a chance to look at fixtures..
No problems Ham i know what you mean!
I hope they dont do what they did with vvm and go back over hurdles….She has looked a great jumper, but she would need tested more…i wouldnt be surprised if she doesnt go at all? But then Ricci hasnt as strong a squad so maybe he will want her to? She would need to run the festival if shes to go there for me…
Agree TWM, its highly unlikely they would…she was entered in two handicaps here but i can’t imagine shell go for one…youd wonder why she gets entered in them at all!

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!February 1, 2018 at 11:08 #1340097Samcro is running in the 2 miler now. A shrewd move my Elliot and Ryan Air to try and grab both Grade 1 Novice Hurdle pots. Think Mullins thought that Samcro was going to the 2 mile 6 race and he has Fabulous Saga and Carter McKay in there who are second rate really. Next Destination and Getabird sitting at home with an easy 100,000 euro up for grabs. Elliot probably thinks Dortmund Park will take Carter McKay and Fabulous Saga and he’s probably correct.
Its good for racing fans because the best two novices, Sharjah and Samcro, are now facing off and Mullins could be left with egg on his face here.
February 1, 2018 at 11:33 #1340101if samcro runs in the 2m race its definitely a trainers title move, as dortmund park was all but confirmed to be going elsewhere
Im not sure we will see samcro this weekend yet, wont be surprised if he does not run
February 1, 2018 at 11:35 #1340102Vautour I disagree with nearly every word of that. He would have ran next destination and getabird if he felt it was the right thing for them regardless of what Elliott had in races. And he wasn’t going to run getabird over 2m 6 anyway
February 1, 2018 at 11:37 #1340103I’d say he’s nailed on to run, unless there is something wrong with him. Only 7 left in the opener on Saturday with 3 days to go. Could they open it back up? If they did you’d imagine Mullins would throw next Destination in
February 1, 2018 at 11:46 #1340104If Samcro runs, I think it could be Gigginstown who have egg on their face. The way the racing world is thinking is that Samcro is the second coming and won’t be beat wherever he goes. Elliott has already stated he is a chaser in the making and anything he does this year is a bonus…how many top chasers have been beaten over hurdles at the top level….Sprinter Sacre, Cue Card etc….
Looking back at the race where Sharjah fell at the last, although you can argue the race fell apart, I think Mengli Khan was coming under pressure when he ran out and Sharjah would have won a grade 1 pretty well in the end. As good as Samcro is or could be, he will have his work cut out sticking to 2 miles in a grade 1 against a horse who could have already won a grade 1. The bubble might burst before cheltenham and I’ll backing Sharjah against him as I think Samcro will be better over further. Should be a good race to watch nonetheless…February 1, 2018 at 11:49 #1340105Yeah, fair point. It will be better to have 2 competitive races rather than Samcro mopping up the 2 mile 6 race and Sharjah mopping up the 2 mile race. Can’t wait
February 1, 2018 at 11:59 #1340106Spot on jamie, totally agree with that
February 1, 2018 at 12:06 #1340107It is something i thought about too when i saw the decs. Possibly Elliot is trying to pull one over WPM and it might well work. He did mentioned the 2m6 was the most likely place he’d run in the press which is interesting…if mullins said this…well it would be WW3.
Mullins was never going to run Getabird here though so not sure thats relevant…
Dortmund Park however, is no certainty to be beating either of WPMS . Saga will go out and try and make all, whilst Carter Mckay will likely improve for a trip i suspect.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!February 1, 2018 at 12:24 #1340109Yeah, fair points all around, and it could totally backfire on him. Can get 11/4 on Sharjah, which is a decent price. Samcro is 4/7. Fabulous Saga might need the ground to be heavy to be at his best. Dortmund Park probably has the best form but there’s not a lot in it and they are all Novices at the end of the day.

He has the most unexposed profile between him and Saga…i wouldn’t subscribe to him necessarily having the better form tho.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!February 1, 2018 at 13:58 #1340121I’m really looking forward to Killultagh Vic in the big one, it would be great to see confirmation that he’s back to where he was 2 years ago. If he is I think he’ll be a tough but to crack. I won’t have a bet though.
No bet either for me in the big Hurdle, but I really like the chances of Melon.
One horse I would like to have a few pounds on is Gwencily Berbas, and I will have a few pounds on him if he gets declared for the Chantelle pharma. I have had an early bet on him at 20-1 as well
February 2, 2018 at 11:50 #1340258Townend has opted for Killultagh Vic over Djakadam for The Irish Gold Cup.
February 2, 2018 at 12:05 #1340262Would love to see K Vic win, but he was off with a serious injury for two years, and this is only his third run over fences
February 2, 2018 at 12:20 #1340265I can see the three horses that have had setbacks this season taking their grade 1’s and returning themselves to the top of the betting trees for cheltenham.
Have done a trixie on Petit Mouchoir, Faugheen and Our Duke for this weekend, and done the same at nicer prices for Cheltenham.
Hoping for good runs this weekend.February 2, 2018 at 12:30 #1340270Small punt on the Melon/Our duke double. Some good looking contests there.
