Well, do you?
March 28, 2026 at 17:08 #1761330A yes here Cormack love the carnival, but must say the whole few months this time did seem a bit below par.
March 28, 2026 at 17:14 #1761334Funny I think this every year from it’s inception to today, I really don’t care. Third richest race in the world and like the richest race the Saudi Cup I have zero interest in who wins or takes part in them.
The more I know the less I understand.
March 28, 2026 at 17:29 #1761339Love it David..I went to Meydan races about 6 years ago and we stayed at the hotel for one night of our holiday it’s an amazing place.
Also love the Godolphin horses …
It’s what gets me through the winter long may it continue.Come and visit our Meydan Thursdays Thread and see how many winners our posters backed today including Mrs Raymo with West Wind Blows 66/1
You’re all really missing out on a great Craic.
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...March 28, 2026 at 17:50 #1761343“Well, do you?”
No.
March 28, 2026 at 17:57 #1761344You could ask the same question about The Shergar Cu……. 💤 💤 💤
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...March 28, 2026 at 19:01 #1761350Never been a massive fan of the actual meeting itself to be honest (even the turf events, where form isn’t always carried over into the European turf season) but when they changed over to dirt then it became a no to this particular race as it lost any and all remaining interest I had.
Dubai sold out to ensure that the Yanks kept coming over for the race because they had a greater advantage racing on dirt like at Santa Anita (when they put in the Proride and then switched back to dirt because the Europeans horse were becoming too competitive in the Classic).
It is a glorified £5m US/Japanese benefit race now.
March 28, 2026 at 19:51 #1761360Agree LD.
And of course, the event isn’t used in any way to sportswash the corrupt state of Dubai, the organised crime capital of the world. Who could possibly think such a thing?
The country with its charming ruler, who tries to have his wife murdered. And who arranged to have his own daughter abducted on the streets of Britain – an arrogant and flagrant disregard of the laws of a sovereign country where he happens to be a guest.
If the BHA had any backbone, he would be declared as not a fit and proper person to own horses in this country. But I suppose it is easy to lose your moral compass when so much of British Flat racing depends on the patronage of him and his cronies.
March 28, 2026 at 20:02 #1761362Along with that CAS……do a quick Google search on the trainer and you’ll find endless references and articles around this issue.
“Steve Asmussen, one of North America’s all-time leading horse trainers, has faced numerous medication violations and allegations of improper drugging throughout his career. While he has been accused of fostering a “doping culture,” many of his sanctions have been contested, overturned, or fined rather than resulting in long-term bans.”
March 28, 2026 at 20:24 #1761364It got him in The Hall Of Fame

The more I know the less I understand.
March 28, 2026 at 20:29 #1761365Must be a prerequisite for nomination……..that or the whole system is corrupt, not sure which.
“Hall of Fame horse trainer Bob Baffert has faced numerous medication violations and suspensions, most notably the 2021 Kentucky Derby disqualification of Medina Spirit for a banned steroid. Baffert, known for over 30 violations in his career.”
March 28, 2026 at 20:48 #1761368Agree, griff. Neither of them should be anywhere near a training licence.
March 28, 2026 at 21:17 #1761370Putting aside the commendable moral objections, its position in the calendar when the Jumps season is reaching its climax means I struggle to give it much attention.
March 28, 2026 at 22:39 #1761373I always felt Sheikh Mo did this as a bit of an ego trip thing.
The more I know the less I understand.
March 29, 2026 at 06:45 #1761378Ombudsmen and Calandagan just so good , but also great effort to get West Wind Blows back so good .
March 29, 2026 at 15:46 #1761413Well, the Crisfords do care.
Total Flat prize money in GB in the past five years: £6,036,509
Total prize money yesterday: around £3,000,000Apart from that I was on the World Cup winner yesterday and realized how “impressive” he was from the front. I have to echo the thoughts about the US doping culture which is present in EVERY US sport and also offers the pathway to the Hall Of Fame and general public acceptance.
March 29, 2026 at 21:33 #1761435Couple of turf bred did well in WC , i think that dirt at Meydan bit easier than the US dirt .
I had a 100 to 1 futures ticket last Melbourne Cup on Meydaan , he run well until stamina gave out , he ran a cracker last night . Crisfords gotbthe horses peaking perfectly on WC night . - AuthorPosts
