January 16, 2008 at 15:40 #135741Tomorrow’s meeting goes ahead but on the dirt only.
The 3 turf races could be run on dirt if there is a good level of interest from the trainers involved.
If so the 1777 metre turf race would be switched to 2000 metres on dirt.
Other distances the same.A decision on the moving of the turf races onto dirt will be made on Thursday morning Dubai time.
January 16, 2008 at 15:47 #135742Thanks for the info Adrian
January 16, 2008 at 16:28 #135752oops – I’ve made a typo. The 1777 metre race would go to 1800 metres!
January 16, 2008 at 16:31 #135753I was looking forward to seeing Mike De Kock’s Bad Girl Runs but despite being listed as in Dubai on his website she’s not in the RP’s "acceptors" list
Martin. On emirates website
BAD GIRL RUNS (SAF)
5yrs Bay M (291)
Exported[/color:21nzc2a8]
Not sure if that means sold on, but maybe thats why there are no entries for her
Thanks Charlie – was looking over Mike De Kock’s acceptors in the RP’s Carnival supplement last night so presumed she wasn’t going. Maybe she’s been sold on to another trainer or coming to the UK
January 17, 2008 at 08:02 #135870Take care for those races switched from grass to dirt tonight as new weights will be published reflecting dirt rather than turf marks.
May also lead to several jockey changes for those who now cant do weight etc.
Weights still being worked on – jockey changes allowed up to about 10.45 UK time.

January 17, 2008 at 09:49 #135898Alternating with Compo so not out until next week which given the weather over there looks to have been a result !
January 17, 2008 at 09:50 #135899Nad Al Sheba – the only desert racecourse to get flooded
January 17, 2008 at 10:02 #135907When horses race on an artifical surface in the UK, it’s called AW.
But when they race on sand in Dubai, it’s called ‘dirt’.
Is it genuinely a dirt surface as would be familiar to US horses, is it a variant of Polytrack that UK horses would know, or is it something totally different.
Whatever, now that even the US adopted the term AW for the new surfaces in use there, how long before a journalist describes the Dubai World Cup as ‘the richest AW race in the world’? Or will AW be confined to it’s more normal UK use as a term of abuse!
AP
January 17, 2008 at 10:40 #135912Is the same surface as whatever was down at Churchill Downs when it was laid so is an American surface which rides like Fibresand in being deep and heavily favouring those forward though whether it will today as track is sealed will be key factor.
Sealing it makes it like running on a beach when tide just gone out whereas usually like low tide when deep and powdery.
Hope you are well Alan and now able to inhabit the whole house !
