Bit of a shock to hear that Don Cossack has been retired.
Gordon Elliot stated “we found that he had a bit of heat
in his leg yesterday (Tuesday), and we’ve made the decision
to call time”. He’s been a great horse, and I’ll always have
fond memories of him winning the Cheltenham Gold Cup last year,
when I saw him in the flesh on my first visit to Cheltenham, and
bet him into the bargain.Good luck for a long and happy retirement

Don Cossack was an under-rated racehorse.
Happy retirement DC.
Value Is EverythingJanuary 11, 2017 at 14:50 #1281441So pleased they have made this decision rather than risk another Festival with him.
Enjoy your retirement Don Cossack and come back for the parade of Champions to let us see you fit and well. Fine looking horse going out at top level, lots of love
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...January 11, 2017 at 17:17 #1281455Happy and sad at the same time. Happy the horse is retiring sound and will have a happy retirement but sad won’t see such a magnificent horse again. Gold cup looks much weaker now and djakadam ew looks a nailed on bet.
January 11, 2017 at 19:31 #1281489Very sad to see him retire but glad he’s gone out in one piece. Great horse, one of my all time favourites.
January 12, 2017 at 01:47 #1281544Never quite captured the public imagination in the way he deserved; perhaps, like Cue Card, took time to live up to the initial promise. BTW what a race this was https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNkcPfHmdDw How often have a GC +Ch winner contested the same novice hurdle (OK, immediately thinking of Brave Inca /War of Attrition) outside Cheltenham
