This news makes me feel very old! He was only 15.2, bless him. Should be a good write up on Kim Baileys daily blog. Nice to hear that he had such a long and happy life.

Sad news … but so glad he had such a long and lovely life – he gave so much pleasure to many racing fans. RIP Docklands – you left lots of good memories.

Good to hear he had a long and happy retirement.

Probably unfairly remembered by many for that controversial Whitbread Gold Cup, it’s easy to forget just how good a horse he was, and how many big races he ran.

Always remember Peter Scudamore riding a few contenders for the Grand National preview on Sportsnight, and he was blown away by Docklands, but was already jocked up for Bonanaza Boy on the Saturday. Cue next day, and Docklands jockey got injured, and Scu couldn’t switch to him quick enough.

Last memory of him was running a big race as a 13yo round the Cross Country course at the November Cheltenham Meeting, and he looked as if he was still loving it.

Winner of Racing Post Chases, Martell Cups, Whitbread, and not to mention placed in Gold Cup, Grand National, and Hennessy. A proper horse. RIP

Only horse to place in all the top races in the same season, according to Kim Baileys blog. Fell at the first in the 92 National carrying 10.3. Given than he finished 4th the following year with 11.2 one wonders what might have been had he stood up.

Docklands Express, my personal memories are winning the Whitbread Gold Cup via a steward’s enquiry.
