Thanks for the reply, ERL – fair enough and lots of fair comment there from you, I think.

You’re welcome, Ian. I’m glad too see you and Cork pay that much attention to such incidents.

CAS is usually way ahead of me on this stuff – he’s like the CIA!

I did note the similarity with Jet of Dreams having been reported to have hung left, however, that horse did apparently have heat in his near fore after that race according to the write up. It was also only three days since his previous run, where he’d also been reported to have hung left and had lost his near fore shoe. It could be that he genuinely was feeling that. It could also have given his rider some ideas about handy excuses.

There would be no non-triers if I was Chief Steward!

There,s plenty of jockeys with the relevant skills to hide a none trier , Kitts isn’t one of them , so many owners never get to experience a winner …. hopefully he gets banned

I’m no fan of Kitts – clearly a young idiot, frankly, in my view – but I’d liken calling for Kitts to be banned to wanting a teenage County Lines drug dealer on a Council Estate to be sent to a Young Offenders Institution.

Yes, it’s probably the right thing to but the wider picture is it won’t stop drug dealing.

Nailing the “Mr Bigs” who put then
up to it is key and sends a message because there will always be struggling young jockeys whose careers are going nowhere fast who will be susceptible to malign influence.

Focus on apprehending the influence, not the influenced, I say.

I was talking about the owner , Kitts does need a lengthy ban however , let’s be honest he was struggling for rides before this , he,s going to find life very difficult now , which yard is going to want him now

“I was talking about the owner”

    Doh!

Sorry, HDLG – I misread it.

Needless to say, I completely agree.

No problem Ian , sadly they’ll be a number on non triers today which won’t be seen , if you want to find trouble in running its easy to do

The cynic in me wants to say it might be very illuminating to see if anyone chooses to “give the young lad another chance” after they think a suitable length of time has passed.

I also had a look at the winner of the race, Bensini.
In his previous starts he was beaten 39, 26, 94, 61 lengths and finally PU on his penultimate start.
After a 155 days break (with no wind op declared) he wins the race at 13/2.

“Trainer said, regarding apparent improvement in form, gelding benefitted from a break and the return to Worcester, where the gelding had run well previously.”

Probably some people also backed the “right” horse as well.

It would be unfair to tar every owner, trainer and jockey involved in Class 5 and 6 Handicaps on the Flat and Class 4 and 5 Handicaps over Jumps with the same brush.

    Many are straight.

But even one who isn’t is one too many and I seldom have any interest in making the market for such individuals by betting on these races.

Some will point to the Irish Derby and say there’s suspect behaviour at all levels of the game but, by and large, if you stick to the biggest races with the best prize-money, whether your horse’s connections are trying or not today is one less thing to worry about.

There’s about as much chance of me having a bet on most midweek races as there is of Gladders mispronouncing the name of an obscure continental cheese.

Feel sorry for the horse – he got a 40 day ban simply by doing what the jockey asked (or in this case didn’t ask) him to do…..trainer still gets to train and although it was agreed he won’t, the jockey potentially could have still been riding while the case is being reviewed.

As it happens, Hillsin, in an interview with Dr Doolittle, released the following statement tonight: “It has been brought to my attention that’s there’s been a bit of chat about the race I ran in last week and my 40-day ban. I’d just like to say that, while I didn’t exactly appreciate having some little herbert trying to strangle me from three out, and while I’m not a religious quadruped and don’t even know what ‘Lent’ is, the idea of having 40 days off suits me fine, so please don’t feel sorry for me. This racing lark seems like a jog in the park tbh if last week is any guide. I could have gone round again. Finally, remember, I’m the horse who put the sin into your hill – work that one out.”
