I quite like Regent Street, currently 7/1.
Beat tomorrow’s 11/10f Recital last time and surely just as entitled as that horse to improve. Well bred and looks the value to me.
May 7, 2011 at 20:50 #354344Regent Street was 9 lengths behind Recital last year and I’d be hoping that Recital would be able to confirm superiority from last season. Regent Street is of course entitled to improve as you say, but I’d say he’ll struggle to confirm placings from last time out.
May 7, 2011 at 21:25 #354349Stunned Recital’s that price to be honest. Practically a certainty.

I hope so, Zarkava.
I shortlisted him as my ‘one to follow’ in the TRF awards section last year. Was ridden with a shade too much confidence (perhaps ‘nurtured’) on his seasonal bow, but Aidan was reportedly happy with his effort and he should be spot-on for this.
My only worry is that he came to win his race that day and just flattened out inside the final furlong. He doesn’t have the most convincing head carriage (no surprise there) and I just hope that it was a case of him needing the race and not his attitude.
The Oxx and Wachman colts both merit respect, in my opinion.
May 8, 2011 at 06:00 #354399I think you can rule Saville out as Ballydoyle’s Derby hope.Aidan seldom runs his Derby horse in the Dante Stakes. Also since Fallon is riding Recital they are tying Fallon down for the Derby and the Oaks I bet.
May 8, 2011 at 13:12 #354433That was a typical O’Brien pipeopener for
Recital
last time out and i would be most surprised if he doesn’t win today,i hope non too impressively though as all my Oranges/eggs are in the
Seville
basket.
May 8, 2011 at 15:19 #354447Derby winners dont hold their head like that i’m afraid! Phew!
May 8, 2011 at 15:26 #354448You couldn’t call it impressive but could have been a better race than it looked.
That said, he looked a little unwilling to go through with it towards the end and you wouldn’t really fancy him at Epsom on that.
May 8, 2011 at 16:12 #354456Shocking run. Nowhere near good enough for a Derby of any description. Shameful by VC to bring him into 9/2.
May 8, 2011 at 16:31 #354458That was not a shocking run in my opinion. He won the race two furlongs out. After that Fallon was trying to keep his interest alive and not run into the rail.A little like Workforce run in the Dante last year.Aidan will now get him ready for the Derby was what he said after the race.He seemed to think that Seville lacked the turn of foot that Recital has.He reminded me of Dylan Thomas and has some engine.By now Aidan will have gotten feed back from Murtagh,Moore and Fallon!
May 8, 2011 at 19:52 #354472Well I’ve been impressed by many trials that others weren’t impressed with and vice versa. I didn’t like Frankel’s Greenham run, I loved Peddler’s Cross’ Morebattle run, but I cannot understand or even begin to comprehend how anybody could say that was a good run. What did you like about it? The fact Fallon had to start to urge him along 3 out? The fact that he didn’t show much in the way of a turn of foot? The fact that the moment he hit the front he was trying to run off the track? The fact that the maiden winner behind him was gaining as Fallon was trying to keep him straight? The fact that he’s beaten the pacemaker 3 lengths? I’d love to know, because I’m wondering if they’ll even run him in the Derby after that, an abysmal performance. If I owned him, he’d be going to France, be gelded, be sold or be schooling over hurdles. Horrible, horrible attitude. The only possible excuse I could make for him was that he was running into a headwind. Same could be said for the pacemaker and it didn’t bother him. Utter rubbish, no chance at Epsom, nil, none, zip, niente, null.
I actually really liked Memphis Tennesse last year. Has wonderful breeding and a really nice foaling date but disappointed on his debut badly. He could turn into a Leger-type too.
May 8, 2011 at 21:29 #354499like others, not impressed by the way Recital hung over the rails, but given he was unrideable the last 2 furlongs, did well to win.
A decent gallop today, and that puts him second to only Native Khan on timefigures imo.
If O’Brien can sort out the waywardness with a suitable bit/bridle, he will be a major player at Epsom, and probably one of only 4 of 5 who can win on the day. So 9/2 is probably not far off being about right barring a clear winner in the Dante on Friday.
Also got to respect the fact that Ballydoyle clearly think this is their no. 1 horse and have done so for some time.
May 8, 2011 at 21:35 #354501Still work in progress as far as I could see, wanted to be impressed and was briefly, but didn’t last. Didn’t think I was watching the Derby winner, but if they are patient he could still be a top 4yr old.
May 8, 2011 at 22:39 #354528Based on that run, hard to see him beating a World Domination or Carlton House who comes out and wins the Dante, and will be smashed into!

Your timefigures have Native Khan as #1 on your list of Derby contenders? And Recital #2?

I think this might be the best scenario for the horse to fulfill his potential. Doesn’t look ready for a Derby, whether hes good enough or not
May 9, 2011 at 05:40 #354557Too much jumping to conclusions.Three weeks ago everyone was writing off St.N.A and look how good he ran the other day. This horse did everything under pressure today. But he still won on the bridal. Fallon did a steering job on him.If Fallon had been riding him out he might have gotten a different response. The horse still has a lot to learn. The horse lost interest as soon as he got to the front. All I say is wait till after the Derby to condemn him and then have your shot at him.As for all the "facts" they are just your impression Zarkava, not facts at all.I believe that Aidan knows what he was talking about when he said this will do for now we will go home and start training forn the Derby.I paraphrase him.I wonder will Kieren ride Seville in the Dante?
