Unless we have a wet summer, I find it hard to believe that this form will hold up back on a sounder surface as many of the fancied horses couldn’t cope with today’s ground……think they also went a little too fast early on.

It looked a bit like the finish of a Limerick Christmas Bumper.

I’d say you can draw a line through the whole meeting form wise

Yes, couldn’t agree more. Despite all the propaganda to save the Derby all G1 races have more question marks to them than before.

“O’Brien is a poor judge of a horse. Hasn’t a clue to put the top jockeys on year after year.”

Wouldn’t go that far, the last 2 years it rained and the ground conditions changed.

Well done those that were on. What a terrible name for a Derby winner.

Feel a bit sorry for the organisers as all that hard work/effort to build up the meeting literally got p*ssed on with so much rain. ITV were showing people already leaving the course in their cars before the Coronation Cup was even run.

Horses virtually tailed off and being pulled up in flat racing in June in two prestigious G1 races is not a very edifying site and the last thing organisers would have wanted. Especially considering how hot May was with them having to water the course with 20mm leading up to just last weekend.

I guess Mother Nature had the last laugh with a proverbial large middle finger to all.

He was unusually slow away so maybe a problem with his stall?

Edit: RP saying it appears he had his near hind leg on the shelf in the stalls when the gates opened, not sure that has ever happened before or would be covered in the rules.

Deemed a NR not sure how that works considering he did run but according to ITV this has recently happened before.

One of the worst Derby Days in terms of weather (mind you it was like this the year I went to the Oaks). At least I stuck it out till the end though, unlike the King & Queen today!

In other news, this is a bit spooky! https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cr5pgqmp1p8o

”Wouldn’t go that far, the last 2 years it rained and the ground conditions changed.”

I honestly think the previous 2 winners win on any ground.

Christmas Day already beat Pierre Bonnard and James J Braddock well this season and A Boy Named Susie gave the form a real nice boost in the French Derby. The Dante was always the wrong race for him but I guess it’s worked as a good prep this season.

How many times is Ryan Moore on the wrong horse in a classic? It never happed much with Vincent and Piggot.

I fancied Wings Of Eagles strongly the year he won. Aidan ran a bunch of horses in it that year and in his pre race interview he mentioned them all bar the eventual winner. Beggy on board was enough to tell how highly Aidan rated him.

Lambourn caught the eye in the Ballysax last year and was impressive again at Chester. I know Delacroix is the classier horse but Dubawi doesn’t throw Derby material.

My Betfred account is now at -59.40 after backing the winner and withdrawing it. :bye:
