I out the new deal or no deal itv on out of curiosity to see how it compares to the original ch4 version hosted by Noel Edmonds.
Now it’s hosted by Stephen Mulhern. What a disappointment think they should just left it as was when went out on ch4Vf x
December 5, 2023 at 02:16 #1672743Agreed…It’s excruciatingly awful vf.
A whole hour wasted in my opinion.
All the revived game shows have been dreadful and as Blankety Blank was Terry Wogan’s baby, Family Fortunes belonged to Bob Monkhouse..both had the wit and humour to carry it through Stephen Mulhern is a wet blanket as is the whole show…take it off.
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...December 5, 2023 at 04:42 #1672744Deal or no deal was crap in the first place.
December 5, 2023 at 13:30 #1672762I won’t be tuning in! However bad something was to begin with, adding Stephen Mulhern to it seems a surefire way to make it worse.
One exception I would make to revived game shows being worse than their predecessors is The Weakest Link. I have never been an admirer of the former host, Anne Robinson. Her rude approach would of course not work in today’s “be kind” era, but I think her successor (Romesh Ranganathan) gets the balance right re poking fun at people’s daft answers without the nasty edge.
December 5, 2023 at 16:23 #1672830The american version is on Freevee, haven’t watched it proper but it seems different.

Agree with gameshows coming back catch phrase just isn’t same as original
VF x
December 5, 2023 at 17:45 #1672840Most things that return can never compare with the originals it is the same with films, the abysmal remake of the Italian Job comes to mind they could never meet the stars and era of the original.
The more I know the less I understand.
December 5, 2023 at 17:46 #1672842“catch phrase just isn’t same as original”
I did watch a remake of Bullseye the other day.. not the same but not too bad either
Still waiting on a remake of dusty bin….

December 5, 2023 at 18:00 #1672844My mother loves the new Blankety Blank mainly due Bradley Walsh whom I refer to as old lady porn.
The more I know the less I understand.

December 5, 2023 at 19:09 #1672853Refuse to bend, you’re probably too young for this, but the original Blankety Blank with Terry Wogan in the seventies was great especially when Kenny Everett appeared on it. The prizes included a mug tree.

Blackbeard to conquer the World
December 5, 2023 at 19:21 #1672855“Blankety Blank” was best when Les Dawson was host and he made no attempt to disguise how he thought the show was rubbish.
As he said to one contestant: “Don’t think it hasn’t been fun. It hasn’t.”
December 5, 2023 at 19:28 #1672856Not that young Red Rum I remember the smooth talking Wogan.
The more I know the less I understand.
December 5, 2023 at 19:30 #1672857Forgot Les Dawson CAS what a comedian.
The more I know the less I understand.
December 5, 2023 at 20:27 #1672859Mr Dawson had a way with words:
“In awe, I watched the waxing moon ride across the zenith of the heavens like an ambered chariot towards the ebony void of infinite space wherein the tethered belts of Jupiter and Mars hang, for ever festooned in their orbital majesty. And as I looked at all this I thought… I must put a roof on this toilet.”
