Lets hope that the Clerk of the course is honest in his description.

Been pretty much sunshine all the way here (Warwick) then again we are very righteous people.

Forecast is good for the South leading up to the race. Should be no problem.

Don’t believe there’s any chance racing will be washed out

Even if the ground were bottomless, as long as it is not dangerous to horse and rider, racing will go ahead. There is too much to lose by postponement.
Whether they should be trying to stage a prestige meeting in late October at a track that is often known to come up very soft at that time of year is another matter entirely.

Doubt Ascot, or any other meeting, will be abandoned given the generally reasonable forecast but a lump of rain is likely to plague the south east on Friday into Saturday, though how far west it will get remains anybody’s guess. So Soft/Heavy would seem the forecast of the cautious

Six of the seven races at the Cornwallis meeting a couple of weeks ago were run on the straight course on reported soft going, so how well that track has recovered from the battering remains to be seen

The Cumberland Lodge on the round course (soft/heavy) had only six runners so that track should be in good shape, though there are two races to be run on it before Frankel et al strut their stuff

Hope all eight in the Champion Stakes stand their ground, as it promises to be an intriguing race in trying circumstances. You wanted a stamina test for Frankel boys and girls, looks like you’ll get one

About as much chance as the clerk being honest about the ground if it turns bad

Maybe the meeting could be moved to Newmarket in future, where the ground is currently good-soft.

There was a lot of dolling off at that meeting – the straight course was around half its usual width so will be a fair amount of fresh ground near both rails .

    Ditto on the round course.

Much depends on the weather during racing. If it rains after the first race then it could cause problems, how much water a cut up surface can take until it becomes false and therefore untrustworthy varies according to the soil.
