May 15, 2025 at 16:43 #1730422AOB post race comments…
“We felt when he came here he was going to improve a lot after the race. So really when you think that you probably don’t usually win unless everything goes right for you. It didn’t.
Ryan said he was a bit fresh in the stalls and that he jumped out and was a bit keen with him, so he was overracing. In the race he said he settled and gave him a classy feel, but they were coming around him so he had to bring him out earlier than he wanted to in the straight. Ryan was very happy, which is a big thing because he usually calls it as it is.”May 15, 2025 at 17:06 #1730424It’s exactly what you’d expect AOB to say. Doesn’t mean it’s the absolute truth.
Fact is he pulled far too hard early on over 10f. He settled better after that (which is to his credit and gives some hope) but the damage had been done. At 1m4f he’ll need to be going slower still and therefore the fact he was so keen today must be a major concern. Even with Coolmore having two or three pacemakers to ensure they go fast early it’s still a negative towards his chance. For sure, without being rank early he’d have been closer. I have very little doubt TLIW will eventually prove himself a top class colt this season. But probably (not definitely but “probably”) not at 1m4f. They were “coming around him”, bollocks. Ryan knew the game was up so rightly wasn’t hard on the horse. You missed out what AOB said about Delacroix being the “classiest” of them all.
Value Is EverythingMay 15, 2025 at 17:12 #1730425AOB, someone who says something is “the best we’ve ever had” every season.
He is obviously a top trainer and he is polite and courteous with the media – but why would anyone take anything he says seriously?
May 15, 2025 at 17:22 #1730428Very true CAS.
Value Is EverythingMay 15, 2025 at 21:18 #1730469The Lion In Winter has more of the build of a miler than a middle distance horse.
May 15, 2025 at 23:39 #1730477Listen dis boy is the best we have ever had.
I left him short of a gallop today so it is all my fault.
Listen, this boy is going to be a different horse on Derby day.
****Yawn***
