This might well be the first time there’s been an antepost thread for this :)
I know many don’t like these races, but I’ve always enjoyed watching and have found this one a good betting medium. And as for the name of the game – antepost, you can usually back something with no doubt whatever of its target – if only the same could be said of all the other races at the Festival.
Anyway, on to Cantlow who hacked up today and won like a fresh horse. You can back him at 10/1 and all he needs to do is stay sound to start at half that or shorter. He’s won on heavy and on fast ground and he’s won from 17 furlongs (was runner-up to SD Grugy once) to 30 furlongs and is trained by the master of these banks races, Enda Bolger.

Nice one Joe,I know Gary GDC has got 25/1 about Cantlow for this,a horse I have always thought a bit soft..His Trainer is a genius with horses for this and like you say is the one to beat come March.
December 10, 2016 at 00:30 #1276332I’ve been on Josies Orders for a while In this in one of my chektenham antepost multis.
Should have won last year but for a poor ride on my opinion.
December 19, 2016 at 09:42 #1277848Took Ballyboker Bridge EWMat 33’s. I was impressed with the run last year and 2nd behind Cantlow the other day. Big price IMO

Just seen I can get 50/1 with Skybet. This price is very big. You can have 10/1 on a Cantlow win or 12/1 on a Ballyboker Bridge place.
December 22, 2016 at 16:51 #1278137What makes even less sense is the other Peter Maher horse, Mtada Supreme, is 16/1 whilst Ballyboker Bridge is 50/1??Ballyboker Bridge is 2-0 up on Mtada Supreme, and this year Mtada Supreme has been stepped down in trip, which would indicate other potential Cheltenham targets than the Cross Country. Obviously a lot has to go right to get there etc but goes off at less than 20/1 let alone 50
December 22, 2016 at 20:37 #1278165NOT A RACE FOR ME. JUST WATCH BUT I THINK YOU JUST HAVE TO PICK THE RIGHT ONE FROM JP MCMANUS. HE JUST LOVES THIS RACE BUT WILL HAVE 5 OR 6 IN IT
December 23, 2016 at 14:49 #1278235Lionroars – that’s exactly why there is such good value in this race. Cantlow at 10/1 and Ballyboker at 50’s is more to do with connections than anything else, and whilst JPM aims lots at this, he hasn’t won it for 7 years.
December 29, 2016 at 09:00 #1279055Josies Orders out for the season.
December 29, 2016 at 09:57 #1279056Thanks for the update botchy – great for my bet, although always like to see the best turn up at Cheltenham
January 12, 2017 at 14:11 #1281587Topped up on Ballyboker Bridge at 33’s again today. That 8L beating of Cantlow last year impressed me and when you watch their latest rematch M Walsh had to work hard to put 2 lengths on Ballyboker Bridge who jumped really well. 33’s is big
February 5, 2017 at 08:34 #1285847Clear from this thread that I am a massive Ballyboker Bridge fan – he runs at Punchestown at 2.30 today.
Still priced at 33/1 for the XC – get on before it shortens!
Anyone interested in big EW acca’s for the festival should look no further than throwing in this lad for a place. No Josies Orders and has comfortably held a number of others way shorter than him in the market. Cantlow and Auvergnat jump off the page as the best examples.
Were this trained by E Bolger he would be 16’s or less.

Thanks for this..
Have Cantlow @ 8’s but wanted another at a decent price so will follow you in

I should of cashed out.
February 15, 2017 at 15:04 #1287515I’ve added Cause of Causes at 20’s for this. Trainer hinted last night that he may go here, and he won’t be anything near that price on the day if he does.
February 15, 2017 at 22:41 #1287574Baffled by COC potentially going here
February 16, 2017 at 01:18 #1287579It’s certainly a strange on Sprinter.
The Ultima, based on his previous runs at The Festival, would appear to be the obvious target for him, and I thought he’d be ideal for it, but may not be the case now.
Is there, I wonder, something owned by JP, that is being lined up for a plot in The Ultima? The likes of Shutthefrontdoor, Minella Foru, Bouvreil, or Pendra spring to mind, not mention the likes of Gallant Oscar, and some others from across the Irish Sea.
If that’s the case, then they might just feel that this would be the ideal opportunity to get him another winner here in this race. He’d certainly be as good as anything that’s ran in it over the years, and his last run did have the look of connections “dipping their toe in the water” with him.
It wouldn’t be the first time this season that Elliot has changed his mind, but to be honest, ever since he’d lined up in The Cross Country a fortnight ago, then I suspected that he might be heading here.
February 26, 2017 at 14:25 #1289027What’s puzzling is JP has Cantlow, Auvergnat, Colour Squadron and Quantitativeeasing for this, so he already has the top 3 in the market, so it’s an odd decision to send Cause of Causes here. Will certainly keep an eye out for a plot in the Ultima.
Looking at the limited stats:
8 out of 12 have won a cross country chase @ either Cheltenham or Punchestown
Front 3 in the market have won 9 of the 12 runnings of this race
Winner to be trained in Ireland
Won over 3mThe above leaves Cantlow and Auvergnat, I will be siding with Auvergnat @ 8/1. Young and improving and on form 8/1 v 5/2 an absolute no brainer.
I have Ballyboker Bridge @ 50’s and 33’s which I am also very happy with. Lost nothing in defeat carrying top weight last time out.
