Hi gang!!
I’ve decided to jump ship and take a break from the soccer treble selections, not having much joy at the moment with my picks and as my better half would say to me ‘if you didn’t av bad luck you would av no luck'(I only tell her when i lose) and who wants no luck, so I’m going to try my hand at a few correct scores, first goalscorers etc.
First up is tonights match at Anfield.

With Torres definitely out, and Keane an unlikely starter, I wouldn’t think too much about having Gerrard and Kuyt in 2-0, and 3-0, scorecasts. Portsmouth aren’t going to get anything out of this game – let’s face it, we could be losing with fifteen minutes left and still win – so it’s simply a matter of whether or not we can fend off the attentions of Defoe and Crouch and keep a clean sheet. I fancy our chances of containing the former, and if Agger has his game face on we should be fairly comfortable.
Gerrard to score first and Liverpool to win 2-0 @ 22/1
Kuyt to score first and Liverpool to win 2-0 @ 22/1
Gerrard to score first and Liverpool to win 3-0 @ 25/1
Kuyt to score first and Liverpool to win 3-0 @ 25/1As for the other games:
Aston Villa to beat Blackburn @ 4/6
Everton to beat Bolton @ 13/8
Liverpool to beat Portsmouth @ 4/11And as (wishful) outsiders to throw in with the treble:
Hull City to draw with Chelsea @ 16/5
Arsenal to draw with Tottenham @ 16/5October 30, 2008 at 00:35 #187084Liverpool currently 1.4 on Betfair are a LAY. Okay, they beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge but they haven’t shown that level in every game (most games) even when they’ve won. If Wigan can put the willies up Liverpool when the reds play their average game, then Portsmouth can too. 1.4? Hand me my 10ft barge pole.

We’ve only played well three times this season in beating United, PSV and Chelsea, so the fact that we’ve won six games and drawn three in spite of that speaks volumes.
With the team Portsmouth have put out tonight (predictably defensive), I think 1.4 looks pretty fair about a Liverpool victory. Crouch isn’t going to get much joy as a lone front man, especially against Carragher and Hyypia, and Pennant should have the right wing to himself with only Traore in his path. We obviously don’t have the aerial threat we would normally have in the absence of Skrtel, Agger and Torres, but we’re surely too strong for a relatively subdued Pompey side.
October 30, 2008 at 01:43 #187090Portsmouth may well frustrate Liverpool and I wouldn’t be wanting to take 1.4
Liverpool far likelier winners but the odds reflect their superiority more than adequately.

Another scintillating performance from Liverpool tonight – clearly good value for the 1.4 on offer

Still, at least my treble (5/1) came in, and the four-fold (24/1) with Spurs. I’m just annoyed that I didn’t have Gerrard to score first (and that Hull ruined their seasonal record against London-based clubs).
October 30, 2008 at 14:06 #187130Unlucky with the scorecast there – very frustrating when you are waiting on one goal having correctly picked the first scorer.
October 31, 2008 at 03:21 #187198Indeed, not bad getting 4 of those 5 up Equitrack.

October 31, 2008 at 15:23 #187243Hi Nathan
Hope you don’t mind me lumping in on your thread. I’m going to put up my correct score predictions for each Premiership game at the weekend and try to keep a running total.
Everton 1 0 Fulham 6/1[/color:3blfukkn]
Chelsea 2 0 Sunderland 11/2
Man Utd 2 0 Hull City 11/2
Middlesborough 2 1 West Ham 8/1
Portsmouth 1 1 Wigan 6/1
Stoke City 0 2 Arsenal 6/1
West Brom 1 1 Blackburn 6/1
Tottenham 0 2 Liverpool 8/1
Bolton 1 1 Man City 11/2
Newcastle 1 1 Aston Villa 11/2P&L: -3pts
One correct score from the 10 games. A little unlucky with the Portsmouth -v- Wigan match where a 92nd minute goal cost me the 2nd score which is needed to make a profit over the 10 matches.
October 31, 2008 at 19:00 #187271How about a correct score competition?
I’m quite happy to run it if a few of us are interested. Suggest we pick 4 games per week and you are allowed to sugggest 2 scores per game?
If there is an interest I could maybe drum up a sponsor for a small prize.

I don’t know what specific ideas you’ve had about competition rules, corm, but would it be worth adopting a similar approach to Sky Sports’s Super 6? They select six games every Saturday (available at skysports.com on Friday evening) for which everyone has to predict the score. Whilst a weekly prize based on score predictions is understandably difficult to work, perhaps it could be altered to give points for suggesting the correct result as well?
Just an idea.

Cardiff were a goal short of 2-2, miles away with other predictions leaving a running total of -8 pts

On a brighter note got Shrewsbury 3-0 in the comp.
