    Will Tahiyra come here?
If you take Weld at face value she will come on a bit for today’s race. He seemed very negative about the timing of the race. He only had all winter to get her ready lol

Mawj looks a tough horse. six runs to Tahiyra’s 3 runs though

Don’t tell Triptych but I think Tahiyra can reverse the placings if they both turn up here

    Trainer on Tahiyra

We’ll have a look at the Irish Guineas but we’ll see how she comes out of this before we make any definite decisions. We had another filly, Tarawa, finish second in an Irish Guineas trial at Leopardstown this afternoon and she could also be in the mix.”

I honestly thought Tahiyra would go past Mawj easily today, when she moved alongsides in the Dip.

That she didn’t means one, or a combination, of four things:

    a) Tahiyra needed the run
    b) Tahiyra didn’t stay
    c) Tahiyra isn’t genuine
    d) Mawj is simply the better filly

One thing is for certain: the rematch, if it happens, should be another cracking race.

I certainly don’t believe it was b) based on how far the front two pulled clear of the rest. I doubt it was c) either.

    A) is likely. It sounds to me that Weld would have preferred to wait for the Curragh but was under pressure from the owner.

    D) is plausible. Let’s hope we find out at Royal Ascot.

Another explanation is the winner received the best ride from the best jockey. I believe at his best Murphy is the best currently riding. Better than Moore and Buick and certainly better than Chris Hayes (although I don’t think he did much wrong on the runner up).

It is early days in Murphy’s comeback but he gives the strong impression of being a reformed character. If he stays grounded, I believe he can be the dominant Flat jockey for a long time.

“Cracking” races are overrated – I prefer contests where my bet never comes off the bit and my only concern is whether a second tub of Tesco Raspberry Sorbet by way of celebration is overdoing it a tad.

Agree Ian… but a cracking race now and again can get the heart pumping which proves I’m human.

Fair comment, Nathan, tbh I’ve had lifelong doubts about whether I’m human or not.

    Roll on the Royal meeting!

What would add to this being a cracking race is if next weeks French 1000 guineas winner Blue Rose Cen enters the equation.. Don’t think she has an entry here though. I wouldn’t supplement her either if the other two hold there ground.

Definitely (d) gladders, the 3rd and 4th could improve for that race, I never heard Caernarfon given a mention in running but somehow she managed 4th.

The race took nothing out of Mawj she looked good and sound in the cooling off paddock. Didn’t see Tahiyra they took her round the back but her handler came round and shook hands with Mawj’s groom.

I’ll pretend Ididn’t hear that Nathan🤣 but for two fillies to slip the field like that you just need to see a rematch.
I thought Tahiyra tried to take a nip at Mawj when they got close towards the line but watching again I see that was not the case although they did eyeball each other, it was nip and tuck who would win.

Agree with Cork about Ousin Murphy he’s about the best there is now. :good:

I would tell the jockey of Tahiyra the same thing I told Richard Hughes before the Sussex stakes when he rode Toronado to beat Dawn Approach after an eye balling battle at Ascot. That was to challenge late and wide.

Do you think she will be shorter on the day, Nathan?

I love the filly to bits, but I’m worried Weld won’t even run her unless there’s cut in the ground.

Plus she’s not the biggest, Weld has cracked on with her more than some he’s had in the past and I’m just wondering if it’s because he’s not sure if there’s much more to come from her.

I’m going to wait and see if she makes the 48-hour declarations.

Weld will be hoping the clerk of the course does a ‘good job’ with the watering.

Possibly Ian… She was very strong in the market despite Weld’s negativity beforehand in the Guineas
Weld can be slow with them so you could be right and if so he’d want to make the most of her as a 3 y/o and with her ability why not..

It always rains on the Friday of Royal Ascot.. I’m still living off Indian Ink’s win in 2007 although I substituted the Lobster and wine for Iceland £1.00 lasagne and Barr’s Cherryade

Good luck, Nathan, I may well be with you on the day at shorter odds if there’s any give in the ground.

I’d be in the exact middle on the celebration feast – Iceland Lobster Thermidor, yes, it exists: https://www.iceland.co.uk/p/iceland-luxury-rock-lobster-thermidor-300g/60210.html washed down with ice-cold Barr’s Cherryade works for me.
