Cracksman well below par there. Still shows the level of the horse to manage to win. Thought jockey rode the horse well considering his mount didn’t seem near his best from an early stage.

I almost had a heart attack watching that He looked magnificent in the paddock but never travelled a yard. Only his class got him home.

He looked in trouble a long, long way from home, dettori was smart not to panic at that stage.June 1, 2018 at 15:34 #1355606

He shouldn’t have been that far back, yes he started slowly but Dettori started to niggle at him and when he came back on the bridle he stopped pushing, then when he quickly came off the bridle he started pushing again and stopped when he came back on it.
He must of known he was in trouble quite early on in the race but he still didn’t do much to improve his position and that is where my issue was with his ride, he had time to get him closer before the race hotted up but didn’t.
The one thing I will say is that given the conditions you need to be handy in any race today and I doubt we will see any coming from that far off the pace like he did.June 1, 2018 at 15:35 #1355607

Great ride from Frankie. He hated the track, hopefully will mean he goes off a more backable price next time.June 1, 2018 at 15:42 #1355608

Cracksman always goes through a pushed along stage in his races and it almost cost him there. I backed Hawkbill last time, but he needs to lead and wanted to be against the Godolphin horse today. Took Idaho in the betting without market but unfortunately for me he put in a poor performance too. Once Hawkbill downed tools the brilliant SDS dictated on Salouen and almost stole it. Frankie/Cracksman coming from further back wasn’t ideal. At the time when usually winding the horse’s speed up today he’s coming down the hill and couldn’t accelerate. Quickening only once hitting the rising ground. Not at his best on this undulating course, goes some way to explain his Derby run. However – taking the dictating/flattered second out of it – an 8 1/4 lengths defeat of Windstoss isn’t as bad as they’re making out.value is everythingJune 1, 2018 at 15:56 #1355610

Cracksman just doesn’t act as well at Epsom as he does elsewhere . The punter who supposedly had 100 grand on to win 30 must have sweated buckets watching that .
ITV were highlighting Mill Reef , the winner of the Coronation Cup in 1972 , who just managed to beat Dick Hern’s Homeric by a neck , having beaten the same horse easily in the previous year’s Derby .
As the much lamented Dancing Brave found to his cost , Epsom can prove to be a great leveller

LD73 Frankie said he tried to improve his position but the horse wouldn’t take him there down the hill.
On a conventional track he would’ve done. He also ran a bit lazily at the start which didn’t help the jockey either.June 1, 2018 at 16:19 #1355617

Disappointing from Cracksman end of. The runner up came in rated 20 lbs behind the Fav and will no doubt get a ridiculous rise for his run today.
Cracksman was supposed to be twice the horse he was last year and ridiculous talk of being superior to his sire in some respects was seen mooted.
Pushed out to 6/4 for the QE II and 10/3 for the Arc, I reckon a good Saxon Warrior Derby win could see him the new favourite for the Arc.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.June 1, 2018 at 16:40 #1355621

Mike – always thought jockeys said it was never a good idea to try and make up ground going downhil at Epsom as you should be maintaining your position at that stage not going faster trying to make up ground (as if you have ever tried running fast downhill yourself you know how out of control and unbalanced you get).
Personally, I think Dettori could have made a little more effort from his semi slow start instead of letting Yucatan and Idaho pass him in those first hundred yards or so (a bit like Queally did on Frankel in the Champion Stakes after his slow start).
Considering the original plan was to go to the Tattersalls Gold Cup last Sunday, I am just hoping that this hard race he has endured doesn’t end up having longer lasting effects on the rest of his season – 19 days to the POW is not a lot of time for him to get over this.June 1, 2018 at 17:36 #1355644

I would’ve liked to have seen him win better than that but post race comments means that at the moment I’m not too concerned about his Arc prospects.
