Looking like another very small field

Is there too many big races? Or is there a dearth of group 1/2 10-12f horses at the moment

I think there’s too many big races- the initial entries for this didn’t look too bad? Too close to Ascot surely as well?

Prize money is huge for this race Cork £600,000 on offer

    David menusier on the situation

“We saw there were only six others confirmed and then people complain about prize-money, I just find it stupid. Let’s face it, without talking about mine, if you look at the six – half of them are obviously top-class animals, and half of them are probably below that level. I think it’s a sad state of affairs really, I can’t see why. The ground will be near enough good. I just find it sad there are only a handful of horses in such a big, historic race.”

Lord North has an infection apparently, which must be so frustrating. Can understand why Wonderful Tonight is doubtful to go but I hope they leave Addeybb in.

A shameful running of a great race. Trainers are more interested in whinging about prize money than training and entering horses. Horrendous stuff this. :negative:

Something is very wrong with the game.
Complaints about prize money and yet just four runners line up.
Happens time and time again and it is difficult to have sympathy for anyone decrying the lack of prize money about.
So owners, why is your horse not entered in this race for free prize money?
Mishriff good to see him in this.
Still a good race just a shame more are not taking part. This race often runs short of a decent size field, but this is the lowest since five ran in 2015.

It is a small field but how many other fit group 1 10 furlong good ground horses are there that could’ve run to beat Mishriff? There’s also Royal Ascot to consider. I think its ok if trainer’s want to give their horses a sufficient break after their runs at that meeting if they want.

Really puts me off the sport seeing prestigious races like this and the King George last year reduced to ridiculously small fields. You can talk about the quality of the lineup but actually there is nothing in here that should scare off connections of any horse who would be near G1 level over 10F. I can only condone a small field in a G1 if there is a superstar in there and you are running for prize money only. For me that is not the case today the 3 G1’s in the field are all very beatable. How did we manage to get slightly more runners yesterday in the Listed race Euchen Glen won over the same distance? Prize money for the winner there is less than 4th place today so don’t talk about prize money.

If I owned a horse and it was eligible, It would be running here and I’d have a great day out. Tell you what, let’s win a 200 k or so on a tricast and buy a racehorse and put it in this next year……

Tinman, Mishriff is the joint 3rd highest rated horse in the world currently. And the 2nd highest in Europe. And he’s not even the favourite. Its a hot race.

I’m with you TheTinMan, the presence of a superstar just might explain it, but it can hardly be levelled at this field can it?

Mishriff looks a very likely sort.
But Ryan Moore on notnowcato stays fresh in the mind. Took him over to the stand side on the home turn raced alone and won. I was there. St Marks Basllica under a tactical ride by Moore would be intriguing.
Mishriff was well beaten by Addeyb when they met on heavy ground at Ascot last year.
    I don’t think a 7yo has won this race.

Anyone asking who else could possibly have been entered for this are crackers. Any amount of horses for gods sake. Snowfall, Love, Palace Pier, Lady Bowthorpe, Al Aasy, Pyledriver, Derab, Mother Earth, Snow Lantern, without even scratching the surface. Everyone has been scared off by a French classic winner and a globetrotting cash cow?

The race is garbage, as was last years King George.
