I can’t remember specifics but seem to remember it being a thing that previous winners have fallen at the first the following year. I think Aldaniti did but is my memory playing tricks on me? Anybody think of any others?

Aldaniti certainly did. In my memory Hallo Dandy did as well but it might be playing tricks.

met with a fate that had befallen Gay Trip, Aldaniti and Hallo Dandy by exiting following an awkward landing at the first in his repeat bid, falling whilst loose at the next for good measure.

Jumpsfan, Hallo Dandy fell at the first in 1985, and Corbiere fell at the fourth in 1986. Last Suspect never fell in the National.
