Hayley Turners ride was shocking in my view, nearly took out a few horses coming for her run and almost left it too late behind the pacemaker and was inches away from being blocked off and probably coming last.
I don’t think she’s been riding well this year but a win like this can cover over any cracks, I think Dream Ahead should of won more convincingly.
She still has a lot to improve on and is no means the finished article yet and maybe the time to start backing her mounts is now because she must be feeling sky high and so must her horses in the coming weeks!
Mr Wilson I think you are a little bit of a mischief maker and try to take the good out of everything.
Hayley Turner is a true pro and is now at the top of her game and Dream Ahead was not an easy ride, he is a giant of a horse and she had him eating out of her hands.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...July 13, 2011 at 09:29 #364508Imagine it had been Dream Ahead/ L. Piggott instead of Dream Ahead/H. Turner.
I believe the result would have been the same, victory, but no-one (maybe with the exeptions of some old Americans) would have mentioned the word luck.July 13, 2011 at 14:36 #364545OMG Mr W,
How anybody can think Hayley’s ride was a bad one baffles me.
Quite agree with you, Ginger. Whilst it wasn’t ride-of-the-season material, it was a long way from a duffer, either, especially given the optimum race strategies you mentioned in your earlier-quoted post and Hayley’s adherence to them.
Now, where did I put my troll jpeg…

July 13, 2011 at 15:52 #364558Was a winning ride, so good on her, but clearly doesn’t merit it’s own thread.
Lingfield has already wrapped this one up with his assessment, nailed it on the head.
July 30, 2011 at 00:38 #366471TTT for Triptych. But I’ve just noticed that he’s already posted on this thread, yet doesn’t seem to think that Emma ever interviews Haley.
How odd.
July 30, 2011 at 08:58 #366503I thought that it was a really nice ride, perhaps either Messrs Piggott, Eddery or Wragg would have been happy with it.
A nice idea for a thread also to highlight some positives.
That said, I also agree with Mr Simcock in that the vast majority is down to the horse, as in any race, and the best horse did winAugust 1, 2011 at 10:04 #366776Horse racing is about 90% horse but the 10% jockey factor is crucial. How many races are won by a length or less? A good jockey can occasionally "steal" a race with a perfect ride but it’s more likely that a bad jockey can get the best horse beat. All a great jockey can really do is keep a horse out of trouble, time the horses move and put the horse in position to win. After that it’s up to the horse.
G1 wins by female jockeys are still fairly rare, though there are more women riders now that are capable of competing at the highest level. Best female riders in America, IMO are Chantal Sutherland and Rosie Napravnik.
Chantal winning G1 Santa Anita Handicap, after very rough trip.
