Hayley Turner on Dream Ahead today.

    Coolness personified.

Absolutely no financial interest whatsoever, watched the race merely from a spectator point of view, but couldn’t believe how ice cool and brilliant Hayley was on this horse.

True, she was clearly on the best horse in the race, but that doesn’t detract from how cool, calm and brilliant she was. Travelling so well she never panicked one bit when appearing to be ‘boxed’ in slightly, she waited for the gaps and let the horse take her to the lead, before winning in excellent fashion.

We are so quick to criticise jockeys when they get it wrong and produce bad rides so I’m more than happy to laud Hayley on this occasion, she was fantastic and deserves all the plaudits that come her way.

    Well done girl.

Steering job, to be fair. Had to rely on a bit of luck too, to boot. Can’t see how it was a great ride really. Sorry lad.

Congrats to her, though. Been a long time since Alex Greaves deadheated on Ya Malak.

Nice to see that Haley and Emma Spencer are back on speaking terms. The post race interview went very well, Emma seemed truly pleased for her.

Steering job in hindsight, but far from a steering job pre and during race.

How many times have you seen a jockey travelling as well as she was push the button at the wrong time, try to create a gap that wasn’t there, get the horse off the bridle etc?

Where did the luck part come in? Skill and judgement to wait for the gaps surely?

This is why I’m saying it was a fantastic ride, she didn’t panick, she just sat there knowing she was on the best horse and waited for the gaps to arrive. She was coolness personified as I’ve already said… it was a truly brilliant ride.

Steering job, possibly but you cannot argue with the ride in regards to her positioning and the before mentioned ‘steering’.

The surfeit of racing on Saturday caused availability problems over jockey bookings.

Turner was third choice for Dream Ahead. Buick and Spencer were first and second but became unavailable.

She did a competent enough job on a horse she had never sat on, especially when Bated Breath started to hang.

Her mount was joint top rated 2 year old last season, had a good draw yesterday and plenty in hand.

If she wasn’t a woman, the ride would not have aroused attention.

She got the job done well enough.

Hayley did everything right. Got the rail early got the gap and did not use the whip. It was noticable when she picked it up Dream Ahead did lug left when upsides Bated Breath. Though may be it was being out in the open that made Dream Ahead wander. Thankfully she put the whip down and pushed him out hands and heels.

Good ride by Hayley and rightfully has had publicity for a woman winning a Group 1 (unusual) which could put her up another level. However it was not as if she wasn’t on the best horse; so can not be thought of as an outstanding ride.

Look forward to the day when "Group 1 wins for female jockeys" are seen as just "Group 1 wins for a jockey" (any jockey).

It was a very cool ride from Hayley especially given that it was her first group one win. To show that amount of calm knowing what was at stake was very impressive.

Hayley Turner is the ‘Queen of Cool’. Her best win for me, before yesterday, was on the grey mare Baylini on the All Weather at Lingfield 30th January 2010 when she came from off the pace to beat Suits Me by a nose.

Was there yesterday and Dream Ahead was the pick of the paddock and all credit to David Simcock for realising at last that this horse is a true sprinter, all his wins have been over 6 furlongs.

Have to feel sorry for William Buick missing the ride, but bearing in mind the winning distance the result could have easily gone the other way so who knows…well done Hayley.

To win most Group One races you need
    A.A Group One horse,
B A Group One jockey and finally
C A Group One run of the race(luck). With all three you win Group One races. Without them you don’t win Group One races.
    Haley got all three yesterday.

I’m so glad this thread has been created, Hayley deserves all the praise in the world. It takes a cool head to "steer" potentially the best horse in the race to victory. I was very very

disappointed in David Simcock’s before and after the race interviews. He didn’t seem to give Hayley any credit at all – basically saying she was the last resort to get the mount and then when she did win, he said it was all the horses doing, 90% horse and 10% jockey or something to that affect. Whilst that may be true, I still think he could give her so gratitude.

Hayley Turners ride was shocking in my view, nearly took out a few horses coming for her run and almost left it too late behind the pacemaker and was inches away from being blocked off and probably coming last.

I don’t think she’s been riding well this year but a win like this can cover over any cracks, I think Dream Ahead should of won more convincingly.

She still has a lot to improve on and is no means the finished article yet and maybe the time to start backing her mounts is now because she must be feeling sky high and so must her horses in the coming weeks!

The OP of this thread suggests Hayley was coolness personified, that tells me he was well aware the horse was not getting the clearest of passages but the jockey extricates themselves with a race winning move at a crucial point of the race,Hayley was well aware of the amount of horse left under her at any given point of the race and knowing this allowed an almost visually cheeky look to their victory.I would suggest considering all that took place it was a superb ride and vindicated connections original opinion that both horse and jockey would gel.To suggest that it was a shocking ride Mr Wilson only confirms that you have your own ‘Unique’ way of looking at things! I see you have finally given up trying to fill Fists boots!

    OMG Mr W,

How anybody can think Hayley’s ride was a bad one baffles me.

Any hold up horse needs a certain amount of luck in running. Dream Ahead is known to wander and Hayley getting the rail could only help. She found the gaps when they were there to take and did not resort to the whip which helped keep the horse straight.
