I have been waiting for this day for some time.
Nevertika who I have been touting for months on here get’s his big test tomorrow before heading of to Aintree. He has come out of a really bad 18k race at Kelso to run here.
I spotted last year at Kelso in a hurdle race as a potential hig class chaser and although he hasn’t reached those heights yet he looks to have a big future ahead of him. You may remember he was the horses involved in the morhine in his feed enquiry
Obviously other thought the same as in his fisrt chase he started at 5/2 jt fav. He really impressed me that day and in his two other races since he has just got beter and better.
No big tip or stable info other than to say Kate Walton apparantly said she thinks he could be the best she’s ever trained.
The horse ows me nothing as I have now bet him three times and the 6/1 on offer looked to good to resist. Plus he looks abit like Kauto Star
I think he’s a class act and would advice anyone to watch his 3 races before having a bet tomorrow.
I have no idea how good the favouite is but he will need to be good to beat this horse IMO
.
February 29, 2008 at 13:44 #147376Maljimar will be hard to beat but is unlikely to be value as all the scribes are talking him up this week.

That wouldn’t be too difficult though would it?
The horse is a decent prospect and seems to be getting better with each run – I certainly wouldn’t rule him out tomorrow and he represents a solid e/w selection.

I’ll be suprised if the horse isn’t concerend with the finish with the weight he has and I suppose betting him EW would be the sensible thing to do.
However I really like him so I backed him to win. If he gets beaten I’m sure he’ll rpay me but as you know he owes me bugger all anyway.
I’m a big fan of Donald McCain even if i didn’t think mush of his dad and rate Regal heights as the biggest danger he’s alovely horse and very consistant running second to him wouldn’t be bad for a horses of nevertikas limited experience………..but Nevertika will love this course, the ground is perfect so I can make no excuses if I am wrong……
Biggest worry is Carvills fancying something else. the bugger is such a good judge it’s scary at times
February 29, 2008 at 16:54 #147425BetDirect have priced up already
3/1 Maljimar
4/1 Natal
11/2 Nevertika
6/1 Milan Deux Mille
10/1 BarNatal has a decent shout in this for me
February 29, 2008 at 16:59 #147427There was betting on it yesterday David I have been waiting for it all week
February 29, 2008 at 20:13 #1474551st – Natal
2nd – MaljimarFebruary 29, 2008 at 20:47 #147458A further example of the merits of Nick WIlliams as a trainer in targeting what is a weak race for the money instead of aiming at Cheltenham. However I think a 14 lb rise is potentially quite harsh for a race that fell into his lap last time. I’ll have a few quid on Milan Deux Mille who also looks to have been laid out for the race, 2 runs over hurdles this season to protect his mark and he hinted in the Jewson and Topham that this sort of mark won’t prove beyond him.
He can look rather headstrong but there are a few pace options in this, notably Ollie Magern that should ensure these go a good gallop.
February 29, 2008 at 21:40 #147463With the National weights now fixed, Milan Deux Mille is being laid out for something, but is it this ? or is the medium-term target the William Hill Chase at Cheltenham (off 10-6) ?
I still think 139 is plenty high enough though…up 11lbs on his last winning mark. Obviously to balance that, he’s a six year-old and ought to be improving .
I fancy Natal, carrying bottom weight with the seven pound claimer on board and this should be his ideal trip…and the trainer has suggested he prefers a flat track.

Agree. 9lbs lower than his last winning mark. 2m4f on goodish ground ideal. Run over the wrong trip (other than non event against Racing Demon) recently which has got the handicap mark down nicely. I would say Nicholls knows exactly what he has there and this is his target.
February 29, 2008 at 22:14 #147474Black Sam Bellamy – Personally I can’t see Milan Deux Mille being as effective at 3m+ as he is around 2 1/2m. I’m surprised he doesn;t have the RP Plate as an entry at the Festival to be honest.
Tuffers – I’m puzzled by your statement that Natal is 9 lb lower than his last winning mark, he’s never won a handicap, either over fences or hurdles.

Sorry, didn’t express myself very well. Has dropped in the handicap by 9lbs since the last time he won

There’s certainly plenty going for Natal today, granted, though he has never convinced me fully with his jumping of either hurdles or fences, and I think my finger will be itching over the Lay button in-running if or when the first mistake occurs.
Of course, if he still goes on to win despite rooting an early obstacle, I could be in for a severe bout of post-Natal depression.

Agree on both counts, especially the former – here is a trainer that takes the holistic view of the racing calendar. Why aim something like Kings Brook at the big Festival handicaps, because it’s the Done Thing, when he can clean up in the big summer equivalents (for all that the likes of the Summer Plate, Lord Mildmay Chase, etc. are now very, very hard to win 0-145s or 0-150s)?
I think I’m probably inclined to side with Mr Fists this time and choose Nevertika, as long as the errors of his penultimate run can be kept in check. His effectiveness around flattish, galloping left-hand courses is not in doubt, and Ollie Magern should provide a decent enough pace off which he can come.

March 1, 2008 at 18:07 #147676Well done Tuffers one of the best race analysis I seen for a long time
March 1, 2008 at 18:22 #147677Nice one Tuffers, I was convinced Pipe had MDM laid out for a massive run today.
