I am not immune to a bit of fun and I do not always share the often disturbed dystopian view of a late night gamble. Pictures combined with words are often far more effective in portraying a message than words alone. The newspapers have known this for years – the BBC knows it and we all know it. The lounge is a free for all for views and I am not in favour of promoting discord and disharmony – that is more gamble’s territory.
Good to know only half of you thrives on the conflict of others, gamble.

I’m glad the political stuff has been given a rest recently. It gets out of hand sometimes, and I’m guilty of that myself, but there seems to have been something of an unspoken ceasefire of late.
Far better that we all happily gently mock each other in the memes thread. I think most of us would get along in real life really.
Being able to agree to disagree has always been an underrated quality in my view.
I can think of at least one TRF contributor whose politics are markedly different to mine and afaik there’s never been a cross word passed between us here and afaik we get on fine – I certainly like him.
Maybe it’s because most now regard the broad outcome of the next general election as a foregone conclusion so it’s not worth arguing about, maybe it’s because there’s no money to spend and Starmer has gone so Tory-lite to get elected it’s starting to make Tony Blair’s New Labour look like socialism so we are unlikely to see many changes under Labour, but whatever the reason there’s less political tension here than was once the case and I welcome that.

I remember with some fondness the Clone wars on Flutter which essentially brought the house down. Then again the episode between the Rickster and the artist formerly known as Tank sort of went on interminably and I decided on a respite to break the deadlock. Forums change over time and tensed up or relaxed houses will come and go intermixed with periods in the doldrums. I am veering more to Kathy’s old mantra ‘ ‘more a lover than a fighter’. Battles won are on the wall !
That all being said – I do like the occasional bit of spark laced with nark !
I’m admin on a totally unrelated forum and we have an off topic area and I think most forums do we even have a Gamble type character. I spend a lot of time moving threads to more appropriate sections to keep things in order.
The more I know the less I understand.
People will express themselves about what they want to express themselves about on subjects they want to express themselves about using devices of their choosing.
Within the boundaries of legal expression, that’s how it should be.
Memes are currently dominating the Lounge, I didn’t instigate it or see it coming, but I’d say it’s a good thing for the blindingly simple reason that it’s exponentially popular.
Trying to steer everyone in any particular direction, or towards any particular device for expression is pointless, futile and self defeating.
On the flip side, no amount of cantankerous moaning from me and others will stop people in the wider world from thanking us for “reaching out” periodically.
People will say what they want to say.
I feel that, once one is comfortable with that reality, a lot of previous tension subsides.

It’s often said by those with not one trace of empathy with/understanding of the still living, never mind the deceased.

I am going to yet another funeral this week – my last remaining old time friend. It does make you think about the future.

Bringing up Jim JTS may not be the most apposite example but to me his energy still inhabits this forum with the same intensity it always did. I suspect Razeen still lives – I’d put him in the same boat.
