Hi googled Black Minnaloushe 2001 and on the images tab got to the racing post photos.
Minardi did carry the first colours – striped cap.
Mozart had a blue cap with an orange star , not seen that before.

June 16, 2015 at 20:29 #1105905Many thanks for the info and also for the tips as to where to find it. Invaluable – there is life in the old thread yet!
Of course this encourages me to ask for more help …
I am doing some colour charts for Great Racehorses past and present, some short and sweet like Frankel and others a tribute to perserverance like Persian Punch.
Two others I have tried and so far can’t complete are:
Dayjur – what colours were worn by Tod (owner C A Fry) who beat him by a head in the Hue-Williams Stakes at Newbury?
User Friendly – any ideas for the colours worn by Potridee (owner L Grimm) to finish 3rd in the 1994 Beverley D Stakes at Arlington Park in which UF finished down the field? Many thanks.
June 20, 2015 at 10:19 #1107850Hi ENE,
struggling wth CA Fry but will keep looking.
Re Potridee what I have found is …….
…….if you google “images” Potridee Leslie Grimm you should get some icons of racing silks. If you click on one it takes you to a japanese site ( I think ) and if you scroll down you should see Potridee. Looks like yellow or gold and purple diamonds – no cap.Best I think I’ll get.
cheers
I.July 28, 2015 at 07:54 #1147114Many thanks, once again, Isinglass.
Another question:
On his debut in 1970, Mill Reef beat Fireside Chat in the Salisbury Stakes. The third horse that day was Doo Call, trained by John Edwards (J A C) Edwards and ridden by a 5lb claimer called Pat Eddery, but who was the owner and what were the colours worn?July 29, 2015 at 07:30 #1149940Thanks to the arrival of a second-hand copy of John Oaksey’s book on Mill Reef, I can now answer half of my question myself. The owner of Doo Call is listed as “Exors of Late W Caldicott”. but what were the colours?
July 29, 2015 at 22:17 #1151146I’ve got the Mill Reef book too , a good read. No idea about the owners colours that you’re after though. It’s a bit before my time.
I remember Tod , there is a video of Dayjur winning the sprint at Haydock in 1990, Tod is fading from the front as the video commences. I remembered the colours to be all blue with armbands which I recall as being red. This cant be confirmed via the video as he’s out of shot pretty quickly , but the blue bit is right. I’ve not got racecards that feature him so that’s my best effort for you. It might jog someone elses memory.
August 1, 2015 at 14:12 #1153127There’s a photo of Tod in 1989 Timeform Racehorses
Although b&w definitely armlets ; can’t see anything on the body or cap but can’t be 100% sure.
I.September 18, 2015 at 13:47 #1207296I have been meaning to ask this for a while now.
In Ireland Hamdan’s cap is different (light blue and royal blue stripes, rather than royal blue and white).
Also, Godolphin’s Irish runners appear to carry black seams.
I am presuming this means another Irish owner has the rights to the UK versions. Is that the case, and does anyone know the owner?
Also, I notice Niarchos have introduced a diablo sleeved version (Flamxman Holdings) whilst Wildenstein has started to use the UK epauletted version of the family colours across Europe. Anyone know why both families have moved away from their traditional colours?
March 9, 2017 at 22:36 #1290744This is for Ile de Bourbon if they’re out there somewhere.
Back in July 2013 you were looking for the colours carried by Stranfield in the 79 Supreme Novices.
Just seen the card on ebay – Light Brown , Yellow cap.
Cheers
I.April 26, 2020 at 23:06 #1487629folks, i know you have all been a great help on this thread before about owners colours and i wonder if you can help me?
I am compiling a chart of Grand National, Grand Liverpool and War National winners and i am looking for some help with the last few niggly ones!
I am aware of the excellent work over at jockeycolours.com, but i am also aware throough my own research that there are a few errors in that list of silks. for example, Wanderer’s colours were Pink with a black cap, and Drogheda was yellow and blue hoops with a blue cap….I also dont agree with Pathfinder, Vermouth or Seaman and a few others….
So I am down to just around 4 I cannot find the evidence to support…so can anyway help?
1838 Sir William was owned and ridden by Allan McDonough, but his colours are in Ruff’s in three different forms… scarlet, white with scarlet buttons and cap, and yellow with scarlet buttons and cap
Pioneer, owned by Mr Adams is routinely shown as blue with a black cap, but I cannot find any source for the silks
The Huntsman was owned by Victome de Namur, but the painting of him was pre this ownership and so I cannot find any evidence of the Victome’s colours
There is also a little debate as to whether Come Away was dark blue or black with yellow stars, and as to the colour of Edward Studd’s cap on his Salamander
1880 was Empress, again always shown as black with red buttons, sleeves and cap… I cannot find Pierre Ducrot’s colours described…i suspect he was actually Captain Peter Ducrot and that Pierre is an erro that slipped in somewhere in the dim and distant past
I am also keen to show the horse as well as the silks in the illustrations…. but for 7 horses, i cannot find a single drawing or painting of them anywhere….has anyone come across Jealousy, Bourbon, Miss Mowbray, Mathew, Pioneer, Charity or Empress anywhere?
I would be so greatful for any help in completing the project.
Scott
June 14, 2020 at 14:23 #1490671Hi Scott
Unable to offer any help but am I right in thinking you’ve got what you needed now ?
A few days ago I saw a great looking poster on ebay of all national winners & colours as well as showing any equipment and markings of the horses.
Hope that’s the result of your hard work as it’s incredible – surely not a coincidence.
Brilliant
I.June 14, 2020 at 15:03 #1490674Hi Isinglass..
yes, thats mine…
i would still like to have seen something for 1850 and Abd El Kader’s first win for Mr Wilson…. i have scribbled in an old book that it was purple and yellow cap, but i have left it with yellow and black as i cannot find proof anywhere! ….one for a future poster revision
i enjoyed it so much i have moved onto the Cheltenham Gold Cup now….
