September 25, 2012 at 20:09 #414209Interesting to see Andromeda Galaxy’s debut for Warren Place at Gowran Park the other day – finally answered the question of which silks the UK based Wildenstein horses would carry.
Good to see the version with light blue epaulets make a return, made most famous by the great Buckskin. Shame the Racing Post are off the pace and show the normal Royal Blue, Light Blue Cap version on their racecards.
October 6, 2012 at 18:45 #415539Hi, I am new to the board. I was just wondering if anyone had any photo’s or video’s of Le Bavard? I have a mare by him and I have been searching for shots of her sire but, can’t seem to find any :/
I also can’t find any of her racing however, she wasn’t very good :/
Her race name was: Sillyme (IRE)
December 12, 2012 at 08:00 #422549While researching colours for my site (http://www.jockeycolours.com) I have been puzzled by the change in orientation of the sash that must have occurred at some point in the last decades of the twentieth century.
In the B&H Colours Book published in 1973 a sash is inavariably shown going from the right shoulder to the left waist, but by 2004 when the (horrible) Cartier Colours book was published, sashes always go from the left shoulder to right waist.
My own memories of going racing since the early eighties suggest that a sash has always gone down and across from left to right, but this may be false as no doubt I didn’t think such things were important when I was so much younger!
Can anyone enlighten me as to when (and better still why) this change was made? I have asked Weatherbys (owners’ desk) and they suggested asking Allertons as they ahd been making colours throughout this period. In turn Allertons said (and it seems logical) that Weatherbys were the people to ask!
For an extra point, does anyone know when the name "sash" was introduced, as earlier records (e.g. Pall Mall Gazette Colours book of 1912) always refer to this as a "belt".
December 14, 2012 at 08:46 #422833Hi
I came across this thread in my quest to find some silk colours. I was trying to create something for my brother, a keen racing enthusiast especially the jumps, for xmas which would show all the Cheltenham gold cup winners silks from 1970- present. I have been through every page of the thread (fascinating by the way) and now know all the colours for virtually every flat race run however could not find a list for the chelt Gold cup.
I appreciate its a bit cheeky to just come on and ask for the list if anyone has one but its quite hard to find the further you go back.
thanks in anticipation if anyone can help otherwise brother doesn’t get a xmas present.December 17, 2012 at 18:58 #423308Sillyme – struggling to find a picture of Le Bavard, sorry. I think he finished 2nd to Sagaro in the ’75 Ascot Gold Cup if that helps anyone.

I.December 17, 2012 at 19:31 #423316isin, I think that’s spot on, though I think the colours were almost white, rather than light blue to the naked eye.
December 17, 2012 at 21:07 #423331Isinglass,
Thanks for the list. Great stuff!Samboca,
Just the last 10 years but available for download in glorious technicolour at: http://www.jockeycolours.com/pdf/CheltenhamGoldCup.pdfDecember 18, 2012 at 16:59 #4234071974 Captain Christy pink maroon cross of lorraine qtd cap

Great research as always Isinglass. One query though – weren’t Cpatain Christy’s colours Beige, Brown Cross of Lorraine, Quartered Cap?
December 18, 2012 at 19:07 #423426Hi Ivanjica ,
it does looks beige on the YouTube footage of the gold cup but ….
if you input captain christy gold cup into Google Images there’s a couple of pictures that appear pink – have got the same picture from an old Schweppes calendar and it’s definitely pink.
cheers
I.December 20, 2012 at 08:11 #423609Hi Ivanjica and Isinglass
Just cleaning up a few of my honour rolls and noticed I don’t have silks for Crowned Prince who won the 1970 Dewhurst. Can you help me out? Merry Xmas and happy New Year to all on this site!December 20, 2012 at 10:40 #423611Hi Ivanjica and Isinglass
Just cleaning up a few of my honour rolls and noticed I don’t have silks for Crowned Prince who won the 1970 Dewhurst. Can you help me out? Merry Xmas and happy New Year to all on this site!Hi Slew, he was owned by Frank McMahon who also owned Crowned Prince’s half brother, 1969 Kentucky Derby winner Majestic Prince.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtBuAcOEWc0
His US colours as we know were black, yellow hoops on body, black sleeves and cap.
His UK colors were slightly different – black, yellow hoops on body and cuffs, yellow cap black spots. There is a b&w photo on google . I think I have a colour version in one of my Piggott books which I might scan in and try and post on here.
http://www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/new … o/79664588Merry xmas to you too and everybody else who continues to make this thread such an important body of research.
December 27, 2012 at 13:49 #424358Fair to say that Crowned Prince silks were also halved sleeves judging by the photo you posted? My take on it is Black, Yellow hoops, halved sleeves, yellow cap, black spots?
December 27, 2012 at 19:03 #424411Hi Crowned Prince was owned by F McMahon – colours in the B&H book of 1973 do list them as yellow cuffs.
have seen similar "big" cuffs elsewhere in the past – will agree they look excessive on the photo but would assume if they were halved the paler portion would be up nearer Lester’s elbow.
All the best for 2013 to you all
I.
