    Hi All

Ivanjica , I concur with the colours in the 1979 Derby race card and the photo evidence of the finish confirms those colours – ( have also seen a painting of Troy at the start and in the background Dickens Hill is carrying those you describe ).

I got the hooped sleeves and cap version from the Daily Express and Sun ’79 Derby pullout – as they were wrong in both publications wonder how the error occurred ; maybe her “Irish” set ?

Anyway , also have a newspaper clipping of the ’78 Arc in which Jean Pierre owned Frere Basile – dark green black & green halved slvs green cap

So I reckon I need to change :-

    1981 Irish 1000 Arctique Royale ( J-P Binet ) halved slvs version
1981 Irish 2000 Kings Lake ( Mrs J-P ) black hoop black slvs version
    1979 Irish 2000 Dickens Hill ( Mrs J-P ) as above

If anyone has the video review of 1981 , that might be worth a viewing.

    Cheers

    I.

    Thanks I.

I checked the France Galop site and Binets colours on that are as you originally described so maybe they are are his French silks and he had an Irish registered set (the black sleevs and black hoop version) for his horses with messrs O’Brien and O’Toole?

I have found some footage of the Sussex Stakes won by Kings Lake – starts at 0:15 secs – and to thicken the plot further it does seem there is no black hoop which concirs with Slew’s assertion. Although it is not close up enough to be completely definitive. Maybe Coolmore might have photos in their archive that could help. I may write to them.

Spot on, France Galop has Jean-Pierre Binet as Dark Green, Black Hooped Sleeves, Hooped Cap and Mrs Binet as Dark Green, Black and Dark Green Halved Sleeves, Dark Green Cap. So the Binet’s had different silks registered in Ireland no doubt. The Black Hoop and black sleeves.

A few interesting sets of colours from the USA from the early 1930’s I stumbled across.

HELEN W. KELLOGG (daughter-in-law of W. K. Kellogg, the breakfast cereal magnate): Red, White ‘HK’ front and back, Red and White Stripes on Blue Sleeves, White Cap.

WILLIAM E. BOEING (owner of Boeing Airplane Company): White, Red Ball front and back, Red Cap.

WALTER P. CHRYSLER (founder of the Chrysler automobile corporation): White, Red Sleeves, White Hoops, Red and White Cap.

    ALREADY ON RECORD
ETHEL V. MARS (wife of chocolate magnate and founder of the Mars Bar who raced under the banner of Milky Way Farms): Orange, White Star front and back, White Sleeves, Chocolate and White Cap.

Terrific thread this, I wonder I anyone can identify some racing silks for me. The owner raced in the mid 19th century and his silks were light blue (Turquoise?) with yellow (or gold) sleeves and cap. Can’t be more specific sorry but any help much appreciated.

New to this site, but this thread covers a topic I have been so enthralled with for a large portion of my 60 years, from when as a schoolboy in Liverpool in the early 1960s I used to avidly get the Grand National edition of the Liverpool Echo that produced all the colours on the front page.

I’ve looked, but can’t find in this thread,a list of known Grand National winning colours. Does anyone have this, or has it been already included?

latics, any colours you need to know of any of the runners from 1980 onwards let me know, plus a good few from 70’s too. I’m only really interested in the races from the colour tv era.

As for the winners from 60’s to earlier, I’m sure the guys on the thread have covered this to some extent already, and they’ll point you in the right direction.

Latics fan – I was asking about this upthread as there were a few from the b/w era I did not know. If you PM me, I have a word doc with the written versions of the colours which i can send.

VTC – hope you are well. Have a look at the pic on the link below. It’s the jocks coming out for the 1983 race. Do you know who the lead jock in orange is. Can’t place it. I know Yer Man was in orange, but I don’t think it’s him.
