He’s not as big or as imposing as I had imagined he might be (without any reason to imagine he would be really though).
Wins the Guineas. But I would be less sure about the longer trips. However, I would LOVE to witness a Triple Crown so here’s hoping 🤞
October 14, 2023 at 22:43 #1666710LD73, thanks for that. Racing TV columnist Andy Stephen mentioned that his dam had won The Oaks, which is where I got the info. But, as you point out, he has erred. O’Brien’s Forever Together indeed won The Oaks in 2018, but COT’s dam is O’Brien’s Together Forever, who did not! That would most certainly temper my enthusiasm for the Triple Crown, so am obliged to you for preventing me putting even more on!
October 14, 2023 at 22:49 #1666711October 14, 2023 at 22:54 #1666713If I was Ian I’d rather stick £1.30 on City of Troy to win the guineas at 1/1 than a 10p on 12/1 for the Triple crown.
I’ve got a few fancy prices. Not in the same sphere as Kris or CAS. 8’s Guineas and Derby double the standout for me now priced at 3’s

October 14, 2023 at 23:19 #1666716Nathan, isn’t he 5/2 for the Derby alone?
October 14, 2023 at 23:31 #1666717Yes… I’m not recommending the 3’s for the double just saying the current price
If City of Troy does win the Guineas and they are serious about the Leger what would that mean for Diego Velazquez?Blackbeard to conquer the World

October 15, 2023 at 00:39 #1666725I am still finding it hard to believe that most assume he will stay 12F let alone 14F – his dam never won further than a mile and was beaten in all three attempts at further than a mile as a three year old (failing to deliver on her G1 winning performance at 2).
……………………………….
imo Yes and no.
Together Forever only had three runs after her Fillies Mile victory, true she didn’t win beyond a mile but only due to circumstance. Producing one performance over further than a mile which was at least as good as her 2 yo mile form… And also put in another performance which indicated she stays a mile and a half well.
Together Forever’s first three year old start was in the Musidora, where she failed by only a head to give 4 lb. ie Without that 4 lb Group 1 penalty she’d have won… And the filly she would’ve beat was the subsequent Group 1 Prix Diane winner Star Of Seville. Second in that particular Group 3 a performance at least as good as Together Forever’s 2yo Group 1 Filles Mile victory.
In Qualify’s Oaks she was one of four vying for the lead over 1f out when losing all chance in a barging match which swung her sideways.
Her last race was in the Irish Oaks when used as pacemaker for two shorter priced Coolmore fillies. 8 lengths clear entering the straight. Eventually paying for going off far too fast, noticeably out on her feat in the final furlong. Finishing 4 1/2 lengths fourth to Covert Love. Considering the poor ride certainly did enough to suggest she would’ve stayed 1m4f well given the chance.
I wouldn’t say City Of Troy is a certainty to stay 1m4f but is imo highly likely to.
At this stage I doubt he’ll stay the Leger distance though.Value Is EverythingOctober 15, 2023 at 05:32 #1666729On breeding there seems little clue if he will be as good at 12f than at shorter. The Leger may be a bridge too far.
October 15, 2023 at 07:30 #1666731I don’t have the slightest doubt about him staying 1m 4f. He settles well and look how strongly he galloped through the line, not just yesterday but in all of his races.
His sire won over the distance and his dam is a half sister to an Oaks winner. As Ginger points out, she is a moral 10 furlong winner.
As for the St Leger, who knows if he will stay? But if he wins the first two Classics he will be running in it. O’Brien will not have any say in the matter.
October 15, 2023 at 07:31 #1666732He won’t even go for the Leger.
If he wins the Guineas and Derby, the next thing they’ll want, for stallion marketing purposes, is a Group One victory over a mile and a quarter, so it’ll be the International or the Irish Champion.
Then they might well be tempted to run a Justify colt on dirt, so the Breeders’ Cup Classic would loom large.
October 15, 2023 at 07:53 #1666735“It’s what everyone wants to do. It’s all about the Derby, it’s all about the Triple Crown…We won’t stop trying to win the Triple Crown.”
John Magnier after the Dewhurst.
October 15, 2023 at 08:06 #1666737“it’s all about the Triple Crown…”
Until the dollar signs come into view.
October 15, 2023 at 08:17 #1666738Perhaps, Glad. But as I said yesterday, Magnier is getting older. Trying to get a Triple Crown winner looks like his last great project.
If this horse was to win the first two Classics, is he really going to give up the chance? He might not get another one.
How much more money does he need at his age?
October 15, 2023 at 08:30 #1666739I’d love to believe he’s an old romantic and will give the Triple Crown a go; hopefully, as you say, he’s got more than enough money on the bank.
But Coolmore is all about making stallion prospects- just listen to the fawning paeans after every Group One success- and a horse who has won championship races over a mile and a quarter is far more valuable than one who has a mile and six victory on his CV.
October 15, 2023 at 08:41 #1666741The owner believes he,s there Frankel , if that’s the case id expect him to take a very Frankel like road , let’s face it he should win the Guineas however he,s not going to win it like Frankel he,s not beaten a horse like Nathaniel , id say the Derby is unlikely
October 15, 2023 at 08:54 #1666743Let’s hope that Nick Luck doesn’t go overboard with the hype this morning. He was at the Curragh for the horse’s debut, and was really taken by him; ever since, he’s been gushing in his praise.
