PS Can I borrow your shotgun?

The best I can do is an old Woolworth’s water pistol – will that do? :?

I think Aidan’s been on the phone to JM, hence his hastily prepared interview with Mike Cattermole.

" Acht sure Johnny, appease the plebs by telling Mike it was all my fault and that ye wur under instructions to look after him ( i.e not to to try a leg). "

I think the problem with Murtagh’s 3 rides here is that most likey in each race winning the race was not neccessarily the object. You get the impression, at least in the case of the 3yo’s that an education for the horse was the main point…

but to be fair we all know these races are trials and thats one of factors we as bettors have to factor into our calculations.

While the Ormonde Stakes made me laugh Murtagh should be given a black armband for his riding this week and his performance aboard Frozen Fire was abysmal. His excuse was he was following orders to drop the horse in, settle him and come late. All well and good if the race was run at a proper pace but on a stayer that was clearly unhappy at not being allowed to go on he should have taken it up. A village somewhere in Ireland is clearly missing an idiot.

The Ormonde stakes was a farce simply, BUT, no one was forced to bet in it. If you’ve had a bet knowing 3 went to post and potentially there was going to be very little pace then you’ve only to look at your decision to take the wager instead of looking for something or someone else to blame for a loss.

Don’t bother with the water Pistol "H" cances are he’ll be made to swim home a drawn LOL.

I don’t a care which top jockey it is and who they ride for but they must be prepared to take thing into theirown hands. If Murtagh can’t use his brain in a situation like that then he’s the wrong man for the job.

Howver there may be a bit of truth in what "H" says. Very often jockeys are told "Do your best but don’t give him a hard race" If that was the case here perhaps going to the front early would be the wrong thing to do in this case.

I don’t know what the relationship between AOB and Murtagh is but if Lester had been around AOB wouldn’t dare have given him orders and he would have won. Fallon may be allegedly a crook and a coke head but it’s times like this when you wish he was still around.

A stable like AOB should have the very best around,

Johnny started of so well but he’s begining to look like he’s the wrong man for the job. 2 complete balls up and a possible balls up in three top races. Iwasn’t too happy with his ride in the 2000 guineas either when he should really have been placed.

Maybe some of you think I am talking through my pocket but youcan look at any thread you like on here. I have never blamed a jockey once because a horse lost that I backed.

I wouldn’t mind a bet that Johnny Murtagh will be replaced within a year.

    FOR ROBNORTH
read my prose before you have a go
I said i never bet there, my last wager was when poor ivy creek finished like a train in the dee stakes, so long ago off hand i cant remember what year, so its not sour grapes
egan did ride a crap race, i watched gitano hernando throughout the whole race as i think he is a promising horse and after the finish he put in after being checked at least 3 times before coming round the final bend and off the false rail, i still think he is.

If/when Johnny Murtagh gets replaced it won’t be for riding losers in mickey-mouse Group 3 races at Chester, it will be if/when the Group 1 races dry up.

So far this season, Ballydoyle haven’t had a runner good enough to compete at a Gr1 level

I want my money back so I have backed Murtagh again :? Not like me to chase money but surely to hell lightning can’t strike 4 times in the one place. My granny could ride this and beat that lot.

Richard Hughes gave Red Merlin a superb ride, Fist, but I’d be fairly certain that he was aware that Murtagh would be leaving it (too) late again.

It has, in no uncertain terms, been a shocking week for Johnny Murtagh and the criticism he had to endure from one or two ‘upset’ racegoers was fully justified. Whether betting in three horse races with no proven pacesetter is sensible or not, running over 53 seconds slower than standard is both unpredictable and wholly unacceptable. If you’re on a horse you know needs a decent gallop and there’s been absolutely no pace throughout the first two furlongs (Scintillo wasn’t going quick enough to stop himself trying to pull up), you don’t drop in last of all and allow said animal to fight for his head for over a mile.

I expected more serius questions to be asked of Murtagh’s performances on Masterofthehorse and Frozen Fire, though it was nice to see that Adrian Nicholls was finally called in following his ‘effort’ aboard Ilie Nastase (he must be the unluckiest jockey around given that exactly the same – ie he managed to ‘miss’ the gaps and hit traffic – happened to him on Parisian Pyramid yesterday).

Johnny Murtagh rides Age of Aquarius tomorrow in the Lingfield Derby trial. Listening to his interview, and trying to read between the lines, I think he will be trying a bit harder tomorrow on that one.

If Aidan shows up, get on !

I’ve only just seen the Ormonde, what an absolutely awful race.

Murtagh said that he didn’t want to go on with Frozen Fire because it wouldn’t suit the horse, however, i am quite sure that going on at a better pace and playing more to the horses capabilities, would have been better than what he did do.

I only watched the Ormonde a few minutes ago and I have to admit, from where the replay started (and due to the fact the winner was put up at the bottom with his price) I thought they were pulling up past the winning line only to find out that was the start of the race at that pace!

    What a strange race!

He’s been acting like a robot this meeting, you might say.
