Our Vic did not stay aswel as Knowhere – simple as , he stayed better than 6 other horses in the race but even at levels knowhere would still beat him over this distance plus the fact the ground was slow played to knowhere strengths – i been following this horse all season and he would get 5 miles staying on at the end!!

however i could be a little biased as i backed him e/w at 20’s – get in there!!

and the fact Paddy was on him helps – Top Jock!!!!!!!

I thought Timmy Murphy committed Our Vic plenty soon enough- whatever chance he had of getting home evaporated when he kicked him on down the hill.

    Evening all…

Most of us agreed Our Vic was a dodgy bet.

However, imo, I do think he’ll run very well in the Ryanair Chase.

A fast run 2m 5f will be right up his street.

I also think he stays 3 miles – he won a weakish Charlie Horse in testing ground. (3m 1f ?)

It may just be a case of not liking the hill…can’t blame him, must be a right strain to go up with a bloke on your back!

One Man cantered in a couple of Gold cups and just hated the hill….
yet found it appetising over 2 miles.

Our Vic seemed to find the hill to his liking in last year’s Ryanair.

No chance that Our Vic was beaten by the concession of 6lb to the winner then, rather than failing to stay? He seemed to ‘stay’ a whole lot better than some of the ‘stayers’ in the field.

He never kicked miles clear, and then fell down a hole – Knowhere stalked him all the way round, and was never more than about 3L away from the top of the hill. Our Vic simply ran into a better weighted and in-form opponent.

    GH,

I totally can’t have that at all. I was wrong about NC finishing in front of OV (but who knows but for his mistake 3 out) – but I was correct about OV being a very doubtful stayer over this trip at this track.

OV, like you said he would, was cantering over the field half a mile out but quite simply ran out of gas, fell in a hole, didn’t stay – whatever you want to call it, but you can’t dress up the fact that he simply didn’t stay.

I guarantee that OV will never run over such a trip at Cheltenham again.

I half agree with Grassy. Take Knowhere out of the race and Our Vic is an impressive winner. He was giving six pounds to the winner.

3m 1f clearly stretches Our Vic’s stamina he needs a furlong shorter ideally but he does stay it, just about. A furlong less and he’d have beaten Knowhere regardless of the weight difference but Knowhere just stayed on strongly.

That isn’t to say Our Vic didn’t stay he stays the trip as well as Knowhere does at level weights as they’d have finished upsides at levels.

If Knowhere had given Our Vic weight, Our Vic would’ve won and no-one would’ve questioned his stamina.

No Flash, take Knowhere out of the race and OV wouldn’t have been an impressive winner.

He finished a few lengths clear of Neptunes Collognes, who was having his frist run for nearly a year and was on his nose three out. Barring that accident, NC would arguably have finished closer – a massive run on his re-appearance from a horse whose connections said wasn’t expected to win!

Our Vic didn’t stay, simpy as that – and like I say, anyone who thinks otherwise can refer to this thread in the future because I am 100% confident the horse will never be seen over this trip at this track again.

Old Vic is a class act, but he is a lot like One Man – he will blow the opposition away at lesser trips, but give hime 3m+ at Chelt and he just hits a brick wall.

    Carv

I thought he made the best of his chances on the day, and rode a really intelligent race in the circumstances. Was a little concerned to see him taken wide early, but TM probably did that to conserve his stamina by not racing on chewed up ground.
Don’t think he had much choice when kicking him on. The horse was travelling so well that he had every chance of winning the race, before the final climb became an issue, by his superior jumping. Didn’t work out on the day, but I’m sure TM gave him every possible chance.
Don’t forget that the stable’s hand was forced somewhat into running in this, and they would have been well aware of Our Vic’s limitations. He was originally declared for the 3m Peter Marsh at last week’s abandoned Haydock meeting. They might still have got away with it too, had the ground been the official g/s, rather than the soft it turned out to be.

The 6lb , Our Vic not quite staying the stiff 25.5f and Neptunes blunder explains Knowhere winning??

Knowhere’s not improved after 17 efforts and at the age of 10, surely

Can’t help feeling that OV would always find excuses as to why he didn’t win over a testing 3 miles. How many times has he won over 3+ miles? (I can only think of 1 – prev mentioned.)

Not sure about NC running a blinder – satisfactory methinks.

I think Our Vic is just one of those horses who, if he doesn’t fancy it, will find a way of letting one pass him.

But for all that, is the Hennessy form not at least starting to stack up?

D’Argent and Knowhere have both come out and won decent races, Madison Du Berlais ran well when giving Vodka Bleu a lot of weight, as did Juveignur when conceding plenty to An Accordion at the weekend. Even Point Barrow ran well enough behind Priest’s Leap at Gowran Park the other day.
