Fair enough – mentally he’s all there at least. Was shocked when going back over his form that they even thought about trying him over fences back in France – can’t imagine how weak he’d have been for those so early in his career.
Following a few of his relatives too – interesting that as soon as he appeared to be half decent his sister was sent to Tatts Ireland sales
April 5, 2009 at 20:37 #220508how quick do the mullins yard take to answer emails?
April 6, 2009 at 21:49 #220656Why did u email him?
IF YOU WANT TO BUY A HORSES ABOUT 14 MINUTES IF YOU ARE ASKING SOMETHING ABOUT WHEN A HORSE WILL RUN OR HOW HE IS WORKING 14 YEARS.
A trainer friend of mines gets about 2-300 a week and a junior member of staff filters through them incase one pr two are from a prospective owners. They have a few standard letters that are sent to people looking for info about certain horses. Which tell you nothing.
Of these the trainer reads ziltch, zero, none, FA. The have a lot more to do than answer emails i’m afraid.

or
Thank you for your enquiry regarding our horse.
He is in good health but although he hold several entries plans are uncertain at this time.
The trainer will be discusssing future plans with the owner in the near future and an announcement will be made to the press in due course.
Best regards
The cleaning lady’s daughterApril 8, 2009 at 00:32 #220803Good one, Fists.
April 8, 2009 at 22:09 #220951I emailed Tom George this year and he mailed me back personally (Thats what the signature and the tone suggested) and he was very helpful answering a specific question for me..
April 10, 2009 at 03:10 #221149Ditto Aragorn – asked him a simple question of which race was the aim for one of his horses (entered in 5 races at the Festival), he’d replied within two days and two weeks later the horse ran in said race.

I don’t know about anyone else but Medermit’s run in the Scottish Champion Hurdle was a bit worrying. He finsihed close enough to Go Native to question just how good Supreme form was.
Could it be the whole damn bunch of them are a poor crop? After all there was no confidence behind Medermit at Ascot when he won so he’s obviously not the apple of Alan King’s eye.
That result may lead to us having to wait until next season to judge how good Hurrican Fly actually is. Even if he defeats Go Native again at the end of the month it might only confirm that he’s the best of a bad bunch.
Of course 1 lentil doesn’t make a pot of soup but it can hardly be veiwed as a positive.
April 19, 2009 at 13:23 #222581It’s hardly a glowing advertisment of the novice hurdle form alright Fists but I wouldn’t read too much into yesterday’s race. There was no pace early on and I don’t think the form of that race is worth much. Most of King’s horses yesterday ran quite poorly and this should be factored into our thoughts when evaluating the race. It is also quite possible that Medermit had a very hard race at Cheltenham and I’d say this is quite a plausible explanation given that the horse swerved the 2m4 novice hurdle at Liverpool which he looked made for at Cheltenham.
I read a lot yesterday about how Medermit was unlucky not to win at Cheltenham after being hampered by Cousin Vinny at the last but I didn’t really subscribe to that theory. If anything, I thought he might have been slightly flattered to get as close to Go Native as he did because Carberry had to hit the front so soon and he was only idling then after the back of the last.
Maybe you’re right and the novice hurdlers this year are just a poor crop but we are unlikely to know for sure until next year when they take on the Binoculars and Punjabis of this world. That is assuming, of course, that Hurricane Fly runs in the novice hurdle at Punchestown and not in the Champion Hurdle against Punjabi. Now there’d be a race to look forward to.
April 19, 2009 at 13:29 #222583In general the two mile novices may be pretty average. They finished in a bit of a heap at both Cheltenham and Aintree but the lack of pace probably played a large part on both occasions. Whatever the general standard there may well be clear water between Hurricane Fly and the rest.
Yesterday there was always going to be a chance that Medermit would be outpaced on a sharp track given the quick ground. For me the most worrying performance was that of Snap Tie. Conditions appeared to be spot on but he was awkward at the first two, never looked to be travelling at any stage and was eventually very one paced down the straight. I guess he may go over fences now but given this step backwards and his relatively small number of wins I would be wary of him at short prices.

He looks to be Arkle bound next year Stilvi and who could blame them. He’s ran very well in top hurdle races twice at Cheltenham.
Not my idea of the winner though. I was expecting Crack Away Jack to be clear fav for that and couldn’t believe the 12/1 and 10/1 that was on offer soI have been betting him all week in dribs and drabs and haven’t finished yet. He looks the best chasing prospect I have seen in a very long time.
I’m surprised after he ran so well in the CH his trainer isn’t keeping him over hurdle but she is adamant he will be going for the Arkle so I just hope she doesn’t have a change of heart.
They are making Michael D fav but with Kauto Star and Denman not getting any younger I suspect he’ll be sent over longer distances with the 2011 Gold Cup in mind.
April 20, 2009 at 23:50 #222822i can see fivefourthree having enough speed and staying power to take on crackawayjack mind 10-1 on crackaway is great value can see him being the best of england and mullins 543 or mikeal being the irish challenger.

It’s ineresting how different the bookies are viewing the Arkle and the RSA.
Mikael DHaguenet and Fiveforthree are not even in the Arkle betting with 3 or 4 Irish bookmakers we contacted. Stan James started off with CAJ at 5.s but then brought in MD and pushed CAJ out to 9’s. CAJ was as big as 14’s but that lasted about an hour.
I suppose like us they are guessing whether they are kept over shorter trips or not.
For me MD, I would imagine, will definitely go for the RSA and if he kicks off with a couple of easy wins Fiveforthree may well be sent in the other directionto avoid him as he is probably one of the best prospects in training
I am asuming Fiveforthree’s 1st choice would be the RSA as he has been running well over 2m 4f but he’s not a horse I know an awful lot about.
It’s not only the fact I have always liked Crack AwayJack as a horse that swung me to start betting him for the Arkle.
Emma L roughed him off right after the Champion Hurdle and made it very clear the Arkle and nothing else is in mind for the horse. I’d rater, at this stage, be on him than something who is at the moment only 50/50 to run
April 21, 2009 at 18:42 #222909You’re right as far as individual win singles go that CAJ is a better bet than either Mikael or Fiveforthree at the moment. Personally I’ve gone in with a few each way doubles (as I did this year) with Fiveforthree and Mikael for both novice races. IMO they’ll prove a cut above the others.
April 21, 2009 at 22:44 #222932Hopefully we see Captain Cee Bee back in action again next year. He hopefully could develop into an interesting Arkle contender. The novice chase division for next season over here in Ireland looks potentially quite strong on paper. Obviously Willie’s two horses look to set the standard but the likes of China Rock, Pandorama and hopefully a returning Venalmar should ensure they won’t have things all their own way.
It wouldn’t surprise me either if both Cousin Vinny and Jered were tried over fences next season.
Looking forward to it already. I’m nearly bored of this flat racing lark and it’s not even May!
April 22, 2009 at 03:18 #222963What flat racing? It’s Perth tomorrow..oops, today.
