According to its website, Chelmsford City racecourse is demanding racegoers provide photo ID as a condition of entry:

One more reason to not visit a candidate for the worst racecourse in the country.

I am not aware of any other racecourse where this is a requirement.

Perhaps maybe checking people not claiming to be 17 when older to try get in for free . I’ve no problem with it at all but never been asked for ID to get into races before and cannot see why they would . They not checking databases , and not recording the photos to ID suspect if trouble occurs so not sure why , bar free entry scam . I’d just show it , pay and go in no problems though .
