A big ‘well done’ to Clare and the team for some fine coverage of the royal meeting. For me, coverage not too dissimilar to that of the beebs of former years. Thank you.
June 22, 2013 at 19:55 #443727I haven’t been C4’s greatest fan but in the media centre we had both the C4 and ATR feeds and I have to admit I think both did a good job for their, differing, respective audiences.
My biggest fear is C4 would overdo the fashion – broadcasting to a general audience they cannot, unfortunately, ignore the fashion and I think they got the balance about right.
Also a special mention to Simon Holt who had to do all 30 races single handed – believe me no mean feat bearing in mind the size of the fields.
June 23, 2013 at 01:28 #443748What would be a nice irony now is that if racing became a bit of a cult now switched to channel 4 and in years to come the BBC, whose pinko executives wanted shot of it, end up fighting to get it back. Yes, probably won’t happen, but.
I had a good ascot in the end. Three winners on the last day. But why didn’t I have them in a trixie?
June 23, 2013 at 10:05 #443762I wonder if they plan the same for other big race meetings both jumping and flat. Let’s face it at that time of day they only replacing Deal or No Deal & Come Dine With Me
June 23, 2013 at 16:27 #443799Agree it would be great if C4 decided to cover every race at other festival meetings, notably Cheltenham and maybe Aintree.
Think the overall coverage by C4 was good. Somehow the ads didn’t seem as intrusive as on other days.
Top prize has to go Simon Holt for his immaculate faultless commentary. Surely a first in itself for a TV commentator to call every race, and given the huge fields for all the handicaps this was a huge achievement.June 23, 2013 at 17:03 #443808I must admit I’ve got stone cold zero interest in style and fashion myself, but it surely just wouldn’t be Royal Ascot without the fashion aspect, including the TV coverage, would it? For me that and our monarch’s unwavering patronage of the meeting are the two key elements that set it apart from any other part of the racing calendar. Without all the pomp and pagaentry the whole experience of Ascot would be intolerably diluted.
I could happily have done without that brash screeching American woman though. What a dire contrast to the elegant Ms Brice she made.
June 23, 2013 at 17:11 #443810Good coverage I’d give it about 7/10. Bring back James Sherwood for the fashion and Gary Wiltshire in the betting ring for me would be better.

June 23, 2013 at 17:55 #443817Excellent coverage from Channel 4 all week. McGrath and Cunningham knowledgeable and great analysis. Banta between those two and Nick Luck funny. Clare her usual self and even the roving reporters doing well…
Except of course the fashions, but you would expect me to say that.
Even Brix Smith got on my nerves, and that’s from a ex-fan!Too many exaggerated ajectives. Wow! That sounds like a lyric from Brix’s ex.

What do you think of Brix’s outfits?

Even Smith is preferable to Sherwood and Big Mac better than Big Gary.
Value Is EverythingJune 23, 2013 at 20:37 #443829Whether or not C4 will cover all races at Cheltenham may not be up to them. It could be up to Cheltenham and apparently they have not been keen on it.

Not according to the viewing figures.

June 24, 2013 at 09:29 #443855Yes I’d like to see Wiltshire brought in, a breath of fresh air in the ring. Quite miss Carson at times also.

I also believe RUK have a say as well and they are keen to emphasise they are the only ones covering the meeting in full.
I have a suspicion C4 may also have a problem covering all the races at next years Royal Ascot with the course switching to RUK – unless some agreement had been sorted out in advance.
