Thanks for trying but the piece you suggest doesn’t ring any bells at all. Unfortunately, Channel 4 stopped using the music I was referring to several years ago and I never found out what it was.
August 3, 2012 at 16:58 #408822I do wish Channel 4 would stop playing music in the background when the presenters are going through the list of runners and riders for races.
It’s so annoying and never seems to me to be appropriate. I also hate it when they play music to accompany the parades and when they are previewing what’s coming up or during a review of the day.
I don’t know why everything has to be accompanied by music. There’s absolutely no need for it. Why can’t they just do it straight?August 4, 2012 at 22:06 #408983What was that song playing throughout Sir Peter O’Sullivan’s Aintree Heroes segment during the Grand National meeting?
I know it’s been used in a film but I can’t quite place it. It has been bugging the crap out of me ever since.
August 4, 2012 at 23:57 #408994It’s usually the theme from ‘Champions’ BH, didn’t see POS’s tribute but if ever there was a score made for a tribute to Grand National heroes it has to be this one:-

Even Crusty might enjoy this atmospheric score.
Worth watching for the fact that Aldaniti stars and Josh Gifford, who died earlier this year, also plays himself. Bob Champion is portrayed by a young John Hurt.Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...August 5, 2012 at 10:01 #409009I believe the Carl Davis score ran throughout the programme and not the POS segments. The music I’m thinking of certainly wasn’t from Champions, rather some modern doomsday film or another that I wasn’t raised on
The segments were narrated by POS and featured stuff like Foinavon’s win, Devon Loch’s loss and, of course, Aldaniti’s story. They could have been called Aintree Legends.
Incidentally, Josh Gifford wouldn’t play the role of Josh Gifford in a film, but Edward Woodward would…

Of course it was Edward Woodward playing the great Josh Gifford, thanks BH…hope you find the piece of music you’re searching for, i’ts getting to me now
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...August 7, 2012 at 22:08 #409191No need to blush… Any opportunity to offload the Edward Woodward would joke is a welcome opportunity
As a side note, I thought John Hurt was utterly terrific in the role. So much so that whenever the real Bob Champion appeared on telly, I wasn’t entirely convinced it was him…
I am one step closer to figuring out what song it is. The segment I was thinking about was in fact called "National Treasures" (of course). A very watchable set of segments too;-
