Well, not really. But they just said that next week the coverage is going to start on More4 before switching to C4 later due to their coverage of the World Athletics Championships.
As Channel 4 are looking to start upping their sports coverage again (they’ve got exclusive Paralympics coverage next year) is this the start of a slippery slope to them dropping racing?
Or with the majority of the country now Digital (hence able to access More4) does it really matter which channel they show it on? After all, ITV show pretty much all their sport on ITV4.
A few years ago Channel 4 did cover the Cheltenham Festival with the main races broadcasted on channel 4 while the whole meeting was broadcasted on Film 4.
I think a similar thing could happen today only on channel 4+1 because nobody wants to see a race ran as if its live only that it happened a hour ago.
The whole country will be digital in 2012 London will be the last area.
As long as its on More4, where’s the problem? Ten years ago they’d have either not bothered with any racing, just had the shortened Ch4 prog, or stuffed the races into suitable gaps in the athletics (as they did when they covered cricket). This is a much better option than any of those!
I’d be happy if they showed increased coverage on More4, then all the little old biddys can watch their Gregory Peck matinee and us racing fans can get the coverage our sport deserves, away from the spotlight.
They used to do it with the cricket and it was fine, I don’t see what the issue is?
Don’t watch C4’s coverage since I lost my analogue signal but would have thought the racing should be on C4 rather than More4 until the analogue signal fully ceases as C4 is paid for coverage by racing. Will the athletics be paying C4 for coverage?
As racing pays Ch4 for coverage, I’d be interested to see if this is covered in the terms and conditions.

No, astonishingly the BBC got outbid. They’ve just spent hundreds of millions building facilities in Salford including moving the entire sports department up there & yet in the last year they’ve lost this, the Paralympics, Masters golf & Formula 1. Then there’s the things they don’t even bother bidding for because they’ve got no chance.
Maybe it will get to the stage where racing will pay the BBC to cover racing on the basis that they need the money more!
