When you calculate your 7/4 winnings do you divide by four then multiply by seven then add one or do you just multiply by 2.75?

Uhm…when I calculate my winnings on a 7/4 chance then I multiply it by 1.75…..why add the one :?

    £10 at 1.75 = £17.50 winnings. £27.50 is my return.

As for the change to decimal odds then I am all for it as we have to move with the times even though I agree that racing has more important things to worry about

I prefer the fractions because it’s what I’m used to and have been for ages. I use online bet calculators to work out all my bets to the penny anyway and always have done, it’s so quick and easy it’s untrue. Every person I’ve ever explained any kind of betting to I’ve always told them to have a look online and use a bet calculator because bookies do work bets out wrong quite often I find..

It will be awkward as change always is when you’re used to something, but I’ve no doubt at all there will be something online somewhere which will be just as easy to work stuff out as it is now with fractions.

Struggling to understand why it will be any better for anyone new to the sport though?

When calculating winnings I use a calculator. Or if one isn’t to hand I multiply then divide. I find it easier multiplying my £5 by 7 then dividing by 4 than I do multiplying by 2.75.

Still dont think the odds being expressed as fractions or decimals are important.

Given that in recent times I’ve seen the odds 17/10, 19/10 and 21/10 displayed on Scottish courses then I suggest that for some it already has.

Just multiply your odds (2.75 for 7/4) by your stake and it will give you your return – simples
