Sorry rbm, I missed your double negative and therefore didn’t understand your thinking. My mistake.
Take a look at Bygones previous kelso form though…it makes the Morebattle performance a fair bit better than 155, imho

    good luck.

Yep – I can see where you’re going with that. To be honest this race is giving me a headache. I have a nice price on OW and I think I’ll just sit back and enjoy the race.

..unless Pricewise picks Menorah and HF drifts to 6-1 on the Tuesday morning, then I’ll have to think again :)

    good luck.

    I agree with Richbowman.

The form that Peddlers Cross showed in beating Starluck and Binocular is probably just that which isn’t good enough.

When Donald McCain entered him against Binocular he did so with a view to see if he was worthy of an entry in the Champion Hurdle. I cannot see that he would have been allowed to run without being trained specifically for that race, IE he was at full fitness.

On the day I think the money will be for Binocular and Hurricane Fly with good support for Oscar Whisky, Peddlers Cross and Menorah will probably drift in the betting.

For the life of me I cannot see how Menorah is so short in the betting. How on earth can winning a handicap by a neck on a rating of 151 followed by beating 2 novices justify vying for Champion Hurdle favourite plus come Champion Hurdle day he will have gone 3 months without a run and be racing on ground faster than he likes.

Tony McCoy pretyy much said he can’t find anything to beat him next Tuesday but Hurricane Fly could may give him a race, they reckon Binocular is on fire at the right time again.

I’ve backed Hurricane Fly for this, and I was about as confident as you could be considering the open nature of the race…

    …until this morning :D

I’ve just been catching up on his previous runs where I can find videos on Youtube. Someone, please, please, please, re-convince me that he finds enough off the bridle when it comes to the business end.

I belive Solwhit is a very good horse so have no worries about the form as such, but I am really beginning to worry that I’m going to go through some kind of Harchibald V Hardy moment come Tuesday afternoon.

Expect Binocular to go off 7/4 fav, Hurricane Fly 11/4 2f, Menorah 13/2 and Peddlers Cross 8/1.

ive read all the posts about what may win the champion hurdle and the best horse in my view has to be peddlers cross? this horse is the best since night nurse and istaabraq. he brushed away binocular first time out and had done no work at home, he is a superstar and will pass the line long before any of the others , he will win by at least 10 lengths there isnt any horse i fear. he has not been beaten yet and on paper he is a cert, watch this space and get on it now.

i want some of what skyelaw is smoking

    1. peddlers was as fit as a flea first time up vs. a 50% binocular and he was right with him at the last before blowing up

TO SUMMARISE AND MAKE IT EASY

Only Binocular or Hurricane Fly can win this race – why? Because they are the only two fast enough!!!
Peddlers Cross – good but wants further
Menorah – brilliant ride last year, dont think hes good enough
Oscar Whiskey – dark horse, but Geraghty thinks should be in the world hurdle says it all

I’ve just been mulling over whether Overturn might be used as a pacemaker. Any thoughts?

I have said all along on this thread that peddlers cross will win the champion hurdle and nothing anyone says will change my mind. As the race nearers I must say I have never looked foward to a race quite as much. I have no doubt come three out he will hit the front tanking and will not be beaten. He will win it in doggy dog style off the bridle as he is a fighter and does not know what defeat is. He is an unbeaten horse and will still be unbeaten this time next week. He will not win by 10 lenghts but he will win of that I have no doubt.

Hurricane fly and Binocular, class horses full of speed. Any other year almost a certain reverse forecast. Not this year though , both of them have a point in a race where they can be beaten. Peddlers cross brick wall is yet to be found. He keeps finding everytime and will no doubt find himself crowned the 2011 chmpion hurdler.

The time for talking is almost up. I hope there are no excuses or harluck stories for any horse on the day and that the best horse wins on the day. In my opionion there is nothing in that feild that will be first past the post infornt of peddlers cross.

The Champion Hdle is won by real hurdling specialists in recent years. Horses that dont go chasing. I can’t remember the last CH winner to make it at the top of the chasing game. Well over 10 years anyway.

I’m fairly sure Peddlars Cross will make a top notch chaser. Hes connections have already made noises to that effect.
I can also see Menorah excelling in this sphere, although have heard nothing to back this up. This is my own perception.

I also feel that Dunguib and Oscar Whiskey will go chasing next season.

Binocular, Hurricane Fly, Khyber Kim and Mille Chief are all hurdling specialists and imo will remain hurdling until retired.
They are all slick jumpers (still ?s about HF in a strongly run race), with high a cruising speed and have a kick at the finish (maybe I am flattering Mille Chief a bit).

I see no reason why Khyber (who I backed last year) will reverse form with Binoc. I would be concerned about Hurricane’s jumping in a true run race. I dont think Mille Chief is quite good enough (altough I didnt think Katchit was either albeit in a much inferior race) but will run a very good race.

Binocular must be the one. Mille Cheif to be placed.

Surely the sample is self selecting? In other words, if you win the Champion Hurdle then why would you go novice chasing? Obviously there is the odd exception (Dawn Run) but generally if you have a top class hurdler then it doesn’t make a lot of sense to go chasing where the chances of falls/injuries is much greater. I think it’s fair to say that horses with a very quick hurdling action also tend to find it difficult to jump fences well (because they tend to jump too low).

I agree, and it sort of backs up my point in a way.
I am of the opinion that there will be some very good/top class chasers to come out of this field. They tend not to win the CH. Kicking King went close, and if Sizing had not have got injured then who knows. But the fact remains that they both became top class chasers who failed in the CH
It is just another factor to take in to consideration, of which there are many this year. I am ruling out what I precieve to be the future chasing stars. Maybe to my cost, but I need to trim the field somehow.

I think my point was we won’t know which ones are likely to go chasing until they prove they can’t win the Champion Hurdle. I know Timeform and connections both have Peddlers Cross down as a potential chaser but for me he hurdles too well to be sent chasing.

Peddlers Cross could well make all. If he does, Binocular may as well stay at home.

    So many interesting possibilities.

I feel this race is a lot tougher than recent years.

I don’t think Binny will be good enough (Fist?)…and his price is too short for what he has achieved IMHO. He is hardly unbeatable at Chelters.

Peddlers Cross could win – totally unexposed but I ‘m going against him on price and the fact he could be outpaced at the end. I know he has shown plenty of toe in small fields, but in a championship contest, I’m not sure.

The one horse I would definitely dissuade you from backing is Mille Chief. His hype bubble was burst before his average winning show at Wincanton. Not good enough and won’t get up the hill.

Hurricane Fly – very dangerous. If he travels over OK and takes to the occasion he has tactical pace and class to spare, I’m not bothered about what he has beaten as he has done it easily.

Dunguib is an interesting outsider as he could still turn out to be the real deal.

For me, though, Menorah is the champ to be. He beat Binny fair and square in last year’s Supreme IMHO.

He has improved arguably more than Binny and he

    loves

the hill. The way he quickened in the International over course and distance was not only visually impressive but impressive form wise. I could see Cue Card winning the opener on Tue well – and then what price will Menorah be?

The 5/1 has been gobbled up, but I’m hoping he’ll be 5/1 again before Tue so I can do a tenner EW.

A cheeky twenty I tell you!

    RFC with Hurricane Fly advised.

i dont agree with peddlers cross being fit bainsey i know about the horses work, he has clocked miles faster times than anything? it must be you that is smoking something. last years champion was below par in my view. binocular wont reverse form with peddlers, if he beats it i will pack in racing thats how much i know my selection will win , hurricane fly and menorah and dunguib will fill the other places. even mcoy didnt like the way binocular has been running, you will need binoculars to see how far peddlers will win by. bobs worth that runs in the neptune is the fastest horse in the henderson yard. im not knocking binocular but hes up against real horses this year.
