I wonder if Barry and Michael actually made up at all since the trainer was pretty quick to dump him from his operation. Bit sad if not, choices were made from both sides.
March 12, 2025 at 16:25 #1723138Ruby Walsh said Liberty Hunter was tanking when he fell and was unlucky. I was looking at the front so wasn’t looking.
Jonbon jockey said it was lost at the start when the tape went up near his nose.
March 12, 2025 at 16:26 #1723139After yesterdays arkle you can see the winner winning 1 or 2 more , got a 10 length + ticket to at 25s to
March 12, 2025 at 16:26 #1723140Yes, their split has been written out of the conversation; hope they made up
March 12, 2025 at 16:27 #1723141Had to be really – sometimes racing provides those feel good fairytale results and this is probably the one that trumps them all.
The start was messy and put Jonbon on the back foot to start with but he does have previous with throwing in howlers at the wrong time in races but full credit to the horses to run on and Nico just said he didn’t like the tape underneath his nose.
With the way the big hot pots in the big races have been getting sunk, starting to worry a bit for things going pear shaped for GDC now as well.
March 12, 2025 at 16:27 #1723142He lost it when he made a horlicks of a fence …. hes out of excuses … and even if he stood up he wouldn’t have beaten the winner
March 12, 2025 at 16:29 #1723144Hope Energumene is ok as he was pulled up and dismounted – likely the better ground as he cut out rather quickly as they came down the hill.
March 12, 2025 at 16:29 #1723145Jonbon consistent. 2nd 2nd and 2nd at the Festivals.

Couldnt see it, Mike. Cameras didnt pick it up – well, certainly not ‘live’, at the time. Hopefully, a replay will show it or find it on youtube later on.
March 12, 2025 at 16:33 #1723148I’m not sure Nico is a top level jockey at the Festival. Just look at the mistakes his odds-on shots made in the past (Shishkin, CH and so on). You have to be better than that.
March 12, 2025 at 16:34 #1723149” Jonbon consistent. 2nd 2nd and 2nd at the Festivals”
Consistent failure …
March 12, 2025 at 16:36 #1723150Bit harsh ExRubylight. He’s won on them 2 horses at the Festival.
March 12, 2025 at 16:40 #1723151Mike, he’s got the best horses in training and the Festival is a bit more than demanding than other meetings. I think he feels too much pressure at times. Not easy to ride for JP, the Donnellys, Buckley etc.
March 12, 2025 at 16:40 #1723152Nico has had a face like a skelped arse all week , they said last year was a disaster with the virus …. you could argue this has been worse so far

The more I know the less I understand.

I saw it on RTV’s coverage live. He was going OK and may well have been placed but Walsh is pocket talking to say he was “tanking” (he put him up as a bet on the preview show on Monday).
March 12, 2025 at 16:54 #1723159Well done, HDLG.
Jonbon was iffy at the second and I think the pace of the race took him out of his comfort zone and drew the mistake.
Not taking anything away from the winner (sometimes it is meant to be) but the false starts are very unsatisfactory.
