Just wondering if anyone has heard any comment, from any quarter, on the wellbeing/intentions
of GREAT FIELD. I’ve hunted around, but can’t seem to find anything recent. He’s a horse I like
a lot and it’s a pity he had a set back earlier in the season. Very hard to fathom where Willie
will send them, even when he suggests a possible target (and I’m not having a go at Mullins, that’s
his prerogative). If he has got over his problems and is fit I would be interested in him wherever
he goes, even though he does take some liberties with his fences. It seems that Yorkhill is to be
treated like a Champion Chase candidate “until he shows otherwise”, according to Mullins. I’m not
doubting Yorkhill is a class act, he has some engine, but I have doubts about his jumping. Perhaps
the fast pace there will be here may help him, but I’m not convinced. I know there are question marks
about Great Field, but then again there are question marks about Altior, Min, Yorkhill and even
more so Douvan. I’m very tempted by the 14s with Ladbrokes, it’s a pity they aren’t NRNB yet as I’d
lump on him, but then again if they were NRNB he probably wouldn’t be 14s with them. If Anyone has
heard anything I’d be keen to hear it :good:

BigG – Take a look on At The Racs web page. There is an updated Willie Mullins stable tour today. Great Field is one of the detailed horses.

Thanks for that CNC, I did see the section last night, I’m not sure when the quote
“He’s coming along nicely. He could make it back for Cheltenham, but we’ll have to wait and see.”
was made. It’s kind of open with the “we’ll wait and see”, it would be nice to see him back
before the festival, it would be asking a lot to go straight into such a competitive field.
I’ll hang on a bit longer, even if it costs me a few points. 8/1 at present is the top price
NRNB. I’ll keep a close eye :good:

I am glad they have chosen this path for Yorkhill. Very happy with 6/1 NRNB

They know they can’t touch Buveur D’air for speed ;-)

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

You’ll be happy to hear Steve, that Mullins always thought Yorkhill was a Champion Hurdle horse rather than a Gold Cup horse. I imagine he was under pressure form Wylie and Ruby to make a 3 miler out of him.

I’d still say it’s 50-50 that Yorkhill turns up here. Although with no Douvan, and potentially an off-peak Altior I can see him taking it, especially with the pace of the race.

He has to show something before the festival though.

    Prediction:

Yorkhill gets stuffed and we can finally put to bed the idea that he’s the most versatile horse in racing and possibly one of the most overrated. Get him over 2.5 miles.
Altior anywhere near his best destroys anything left in this race.
Even if he didn’t turn up I wouldn’t be backing Yorkhill at what would likely be extremely prohibited odds for a horse aimed at the gold cup.
He might beat simply ned though

I disagree on your Yorkhill comments Jasolong, but I like your passion and strong views. You will either be right and look like a boss, or wrong, and be wrong. It’s a prediction, that’s the game. People should never be made to feel like they cannot express an opinion, and I like the fact you vehemently state yours.

It is hard to argue against Altior because his credentials are obviously absolutely rock solid and clear for all to see. At his best he wins. That being said (and well done to those at bigger prices) is 5/4 or possibly odds on a price I want to take for a horse that is post breathing op with no prep run? Not in my book, because it is likely we won’t know whether or not he is back to his best, so not a price that interests me.

Yorkhill’s versatility status will be very much proved or disproven with the running of this race, or perhaps before hand. All I know is far shrewder people than myself have long thought Yorkhill is crying out for a 2m test and he is regarded by plenty of people as a beast. I personally wouldn’t be too quick to write off a horse like that and as you know from previous posts, I am a massive fan of the horse.

I take it you’ve missed his two wins at Cheltenham  Form working out just fine…..clearly a massive engine but an absolute quirk bag.

So, if you say he’s the most overrated horse in training, do tell me where in his form lines you get that?

He has had valid excuses for each of his losses, perhaps minus the one at the Punchestown fez that Don’t Touch It won. There is probably the excuse of him having had a tough race winning doing everything wrong at Aintree….but i will leave that aside.

Road to Respect, who has done ok this season right? beat him by a NK when Yorkhill jumped as far left as you possibly could throughout?

Irish Gold Cup….trying 3miles, pulled to front, on reappearance. ran with choke out.

Then look at the horses he has beat……..

PS as Charlie says, fair enough have strong opinions…..but backing them up with some reasoning would help once in a while.

Jack – I think you can take some of Jasolong’s more general comments about Yorkhill with a pinch of salt cause he was and still is absolutely fuming that Yorkhill beat Yanworth in the Neptune 2016 ;-)

Jack bud I’m fed up of being right on here. I put many reasons for things on here but I thought I had over explained Yorkhill enough in dozens of posts as Charlie knows my wounds are still stinging from 2016 Neptune. Feel sick talking about it mate. And you lot stroll in here reminding me of the horse I who ruined my festival that year.
And as Charlie said I’m just not a guy who sits on the fence at all so I may be a little too exaggerated with my wording. Yorkhill isn’t overrated over 2.5 miles but is over every other distance and by Ruby Walsh who reckons he can win anything he fancies. Ryainair horse only.

I’ll just wait for Yorkhill to get beat and see what the excuses are

I feel like I’m going out of my way to rattle people so apologies. Half the time I’m just talking non sense.
Let’s just see what happens if Yorkhill wins please destroy me

Jasolong, nothing of the sort, just when people give very strong opinions its good to give your arguments as to why especially on a forum!…well that’s my view anyway!

Jaso, I’d agree with Jack here, you’re giving your strong opinion BEFOREHAND, which is what this place is all about. Yes, you have a rather unique style, but it’s clearly tongue in cheek. All good fun, and this place wouldn’t exist if we all had the same style of posting. Keep it up.
