February 11, 2017 at 13:25 #1286897Is there any chance at all Altior goes for this?
No chance with Douvan in there. They’ll want to win the arkle then worry about douvan next season (or hope hes stepped up to 3m next season). Theyve no need or rush to skip a step now. They didnt do it with Sprinter.
Good thing there was no major market movement, luckily got 50s and 55s as soon as the market reopened.
And I’m out at 14s.
February 11, 2017 at 17:15 #1286975Well you’d have to imagine it’s bye bye Fox Norton after that. We might have fewer than 8 runners in this.
February 14, 2017 at 22:29 #1287441Thanks for that link BigG, I’ve bet him for this but would like to see him soon
I was disappointed on Saturday BigG and have written this bet off as I don’t think he will be going now.
March 8, 2017 at 18:35 #1290516Sire de Grugy ruled out of the festival, meaning the weights for the Grand Annual are due to shoot right up.
Traffic Fluide today confirmed for a crack at Douvan. SkyBet go 20/1 without Douvan and that seems a fair each-way bet.

Followed in.
Lost a fair few quid on this horse this year in the betting ‘without’ market. One last chance. Let’s see who turns up
March 8, 2017 at 21:25 #1290555Is it just me now or is this race dead from a competitive point of view
same as the arkle
shame but unfortunately these races have basically been killed off by the jlt and ryanair. All the forums are abuzz with talk about the supreme, the champion hurdle and the neptune. Come into a thread about the queen mum or arkle and it’s basically like dropping a pin in an empty catherdal. Very little talk about these formerly great races as there’s only so much you can say about a 1-4 shot?
Of course next year they’ll be all the altoir vs douvan discussion, but can you imagine what it would be like if either got injured? It’ll be the biggest let down ever. As I imagine they’ll keep douvan in ireland I doubt they’ll meet before then, unless it’s this spring in punchestown (or possibly aintree)
March 8, 2017 at 21:32 #1290556Yeah, it was a real shame Sprinter didn’t make it here

March 8, 2017 at 21:52 #1290560I think this is one of the problems with horse racing to be honest with you, there should be more encouragement to take each other on
in tennis, golf, football, the top players and teams take each other on at regular intervals. In horse racing there’s too much power with the connections, who wrap their charges in cotton wool (basically because they can) and too little thought given to the general public and what we might want, which is Altoir vs Douvan
would it be too much for the racing authorities (as useless as they undoubtably are) to get together and say, look let’s make this Altoir vs Douvan clash happen in the tingle creek, boost the prize fund, get those horses there? And basically say look we’ll going to fine you, willie mullins or nicky henderson, if you choose to keep your horse at home?
I can just see the nightmare scenario happening next year, when you get these two megastars and they’re finally going to clash, and then two weeks before the festival one of them gets an injury- cue another walk over queen mum zzzzzz
March 12, 2017 at 12:22 #1291353I’m only 85% sold on Douvan as the 1/4 banker the market and the hype are selling us, so I’ll probably play this race each-way rather than Without Douvan. I think the ‘win’ half could be alive.
Fox Norton has always been a bit of a flaky horse, but Tizzard and Mulholland have improved his consistency. I do side with Tizzard’s opinion that the Champion Chase configuration is a little sharp for a horse who really wants the emphasis on stamina at this trip. No doubt he’ll strip fitter for his Game Spirit run but I don’t think his price is great.
God’s Own is possibly the muggy or lazy each-way bet. Though he chased home UDS in the Arkle and ran fairly well last year, his figures at Cheltenham have always lagged behind his best. He does hang when facing the undulations and isn’t really a Cheltenham horse.
Garde La Victoire is not a natural over fences and keeps calling upon his class to haul him through. The old frailties are sure to resurface in this company.
L’Ami Serge and Simply Ned are notorious softies and this is probably a bit too hot for good old Sir Valentino.
That leaves me with Special Tiara, who has never run a bad race in his optimum conditions. He’ll get his perfect ground here and should run into the frame with just a repeat of last year’s effort for a heroic third. Although I dislike the firm from a ethical POV, 32Red are a standout 20/1 1/4 odds, so I’ll try to punish them with Henry de Bromhead’s cult hero.
March 12, 2017 at 14:41 #1291392Fox Norton wants a really hot pace to come off. If he gets that he’ll place at worst although I’ve a feeling the yard might opt for the Ryanair where he’d have a bigger chance of winning.
I’m very much hoping God’s Own misses this for the Ryanair. They’re too fast for him these days at 2 miles, especially on this ground, whereas Heskin (who has the best pair of hands I’ve ever seen in a young NH jockey) will be able to switch him off in the Ryanair and, if he goes round error-free, bring him with a sustained run.
I wouldn’t write off Sir Valentino EW at the price. He’s improving and track should suit. He’s a better horse than Special Tiara on their Kempton form.
March 14, 2017 at 21:36 #1292083Two Tom George horses look worth a bet.
Have got an ew on Traffic Fluide but he’s disappointed badly since. I think Gods Own runs just as well at Cheltenham as he does anywhere else. Probably needs a strongly run 2 miles which this is likely to be. Goes well on goodish going. Looks worth backing particularly in the betting without market; especially if VC will let you have their 4/1. Special Tiara either more inconsistent and/or on the downgrade. I’d quite like Garde La Victoire if Special Tiara were not in the field. imo Both are best these days with an easy lead. Hobbs horse is often bold but can miss one out. With Tizzards apparently struggling for form rather be against the second best horse Fox Norton and stable companion Sizing Granite. Love Top gamble as a racehorse, but raced mainly on very soft ground. Simply Ned‘s ability is estalished and there’d need to be a lot running below par for him to place. However, Sir Valentino could be capable of better, only a seven year old and only 1/2 length behind Special Tiara in the Desert Orchid giving the winner 6 lbs. He’s not the most straightforward, but this less fancied stable companion of Gods Own could run well. Yard is in great form and surely overpriced @ 14/1 in the betting without market or even 50/1 ew.Value Is EverythingMarch 15, 2017 at 10:19 #1292236Totally agree with you Ginger!
