A new thread,
which I will dedicate solely to Bumpers.
It leads to the top echelons of National Hunt sometimes directly, but often in a very circular route. All that is good, great and bad about racing is here.
A lot of noses are turned up at National Hunt flat racing and that is fine. For me it has helped me discover and unravel many mysteries of what makes racing work. It has been a conduit into understanding Irish racing handicapping hurdling and chasing.
when I get a 25/1 each way in a twenty four runner handicap or maiden hurdle it will quite possibly be something I gleaned from a bumper six months to two years earlier.
For some stables it is a great source of income for others a way of schooling runners and a chance to blood horses under rules and nothing else. Sort this out, especially in Ireland and there is a clear route to understanding how the sport works.
This thread will not turn a profit anytime soon but it will hopefully lead to something else along the way…….January 17, 2022 at 22:46 #1578543Of all the races at Cheltenham or any other NH meeting I love trying to solve the bumper.
I’ll be following your progress Sam and good luck with the Thread.

Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...January 18, 2022 at 00:20 #1578554Thank you.
Straight into it.
Tomorrow
Newcastle holds a card and hopefully this race to kick off the meeting will better than last week’s debacle at Lingfield.
Why hold a NH meeting with a bumper on the all weather? If they race properly then good and proper, but a fifteen furlong crawl and a sprint is as unedifying as they come.
As it was, the selection, Nicky Henderson’s prevailed in a dash for the line if I remember correctly.
This time, huge flat trainer Richard Fahey employs Richard Hughes for the second year running. His representative went close last year finishing second under the same jockey.
In the concluding race at Exeter, two look like going close. The Turtle Said and firestream have both gone very close in two bumpers each.
Firestream ran into two good runners too good including a quality horse over from Germany and targeted for a winter campaign in England in a decent muddy race at Ascot. Ran into another good runner in October and this looks an easier task.Ri Na Farraige
Bred to run on the flat but sire Dawn Approach gets two miles well and has had two winners on the all weather over the classic distance and two miles in the last few days.Newcastle bumper first race

Each way doubleJanuary 18, 2022 at 12:42 #1578586What a difficult bumper to kick off with Sam..
Ive had a little each way on Top Ville Bobby at 11’s..just because I love Yeats and know he will have been bred to last the distance.
Your Ri Na Farraige looks a big danger, best of luck..

Having been in the race last year no way was Fahey leaving here without the money!
Just need the other bumper runners to do the same.
Great start though.
Brilliant Emma just fought back to win in some style in the Aussie open.January 18, 2022 at 16:54 #1578621
Win double came good wth Firestream winning the last at Exeter Sam..good day at the office.Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...January 19, 2022 at 08:51 #1578701Nice start.
Clifton Bridge trained by Alan King has a winners chance here.
He has to overcome the challenge of the Gary Moore horse Authorized Speed. But He has failed to beat his rival on two occasions and has therefore a question mark at odds on.
Clifton Bridge 🌎 Can provide another step in the world quest at decent odds.
The other interesting runner of those that are assessable is Decorated. It must be the age that gives him the bottom weight here and the four year old can run well with Sam Twiston Davies on board.
To put the icing on the cake Clifton Bridge has collaborative form with the non runner FIRESTREAM who won easily yesterday.

Some confusion if decorated is a mare or a gelding. Listed as a mare some placings a gelding elsewhere.

Penalised runners are often not considered but giving lumps of weight away is often beyond younger horses and cannot be underestimated.
Could only make third place.
But going well after two days two winners three races.January 20, 2022 at 15:45 #1578877Tchoupinminzac

Hosts the day’s bumper and there is plenty of listed winning form to consider.
The main form here must go to Flirtatious Girl in beating both speech bubble And Tweed skirt in a Sandown contest back in March on heavy ground which had seen the imperial cup previously. The form has been franked but there is a penalty to overcome now.
Pam sly gets the each way vote and has the well bred Chic Avenue a Champes Ellyses filly the four year old has a near impossible task despite getting a stone from the field but her trainer won this race with Eileendover.January 22, 2022 at 15:55 #1579331Navan

May be tapped for toe here but placed all starts and at near three figure odds to four places worth a pop.
