It’s that time of the year again when the sub-cultures clash and the Yanks open their backstretch (or not, according to Richard Hannon Jnr) to the rest of the racing world.
The Racing Post have kindly given us a copy of their 2012 Racing Post annual to give away in our annual Breeders Cup competition.
We usually do a simple tipping competition for the Breeders Cup but that can be won by whoever flukes the night’s big priced winner so I thought we’d go for something a little different.
So – I thought we’d try a little head to head game. You simply have to pick who will win each of the head to heads in every race (there are two per race and four in the Classic).
You get one point per winner. You nap ONE head to head in each race and get 2 points if you get that one right.
In the event of a tie, the player with most actual race wins will win, then 2nds, then 3rds, etc until a winner emerges.
Pretty straightforward and multiple interest in each race to keep the evening lively. Hopefully.
Head to heads will apear shortly below – entries must be in by 5 pm Saturday afternoon. If there are any non-runners that head to head will be declared void.
As usual – judges decision is final.

THE RACING POST ANNUAL 2012“There have been moments when, in the wrong hands, his mind could have blown it”
Brough Scott’s inside story of Frankel the wonder horse“The dream is that he should be loved as much as Desert Orchid”
Long Run’s glorious year and the plan to make him jump racing’s new superstar“In the duel between life and death, life had won”
The miraculous recovery of Monet’s Garden“I hope I made Dad proud”
Donald McCain on the Grand National and his upbringing“I’m not daft enough to say it’ll come easily, but I’d love to be champion trainer”
The names and faces to watch in 2012“He’s covering almost the length of a cricket pitch each and every second”
Racing Post experts give their views on the champions and key races“It was an easy choice”
Announcing the Racing Post Annual Person of the Year
“A blind man could see his saddle had slipped!”
The Annual’s alternative awardsThis exciting new book from the Racing Post has 192 colour pages packed with interviews and features on all the best stories of the racing year, as well as the names and faces to watch in 2012, and is beautifully illustrated with stunning images by award-winning photographer Edward Whitaker. And there is everything you’d expect from an Annual: competitions, offers, prizes, humour and a sometimes serious, sometimes irreverent look back on the best and worst of the year.

You simply have to pick who will win each of the head to heads in every race (there are two per race apart from the last race, the Classic, where there are four).
You get one point per winner.
You nap ONE head to head in each race and get 2 points if you get that one right.
(Failure to nominate a nap will mean your nap default is the first head to head selection in that race.)
In the event of a tie on total number points scored, the player with most actual race wins will win, then 2nds, then 3rds, etc until a winner emerges.
Pretty straightforward and multiple interest in each race to keep the evening lively. Hopefully going to the last on a cliff-hanger.
Entries must be in by 5 pm Saturday afternoon. If there are any non-runners that head to head will be declared void.
You need to select in all head to heads in each race.

You cheeky bleeder! Are you trying to say my consecutive wins in 2009 and 2010 were down to pure flukes Cormack?
I’ll have you know I spent many long minutes studying the American form.

Rattlesnake BridgeNovember 4, 2011 at 13:28 #375971Good luck to everyone who has a go but I would have much preferred just a straight selection as in previous years.
November 4, 2011 at 14:46 #375983I must be completely thick but the compy is way over my little brain and i suspect most will unfortunately agree….. the person who fully is au fait with the rules will probably win

David (dfward)it’s just 2 sets of horses racing against each other in every race on the card, just pick the one you think would win if if were a 2 horse race and then nap the selection that you are convinced is the better of the 2.
Cormack has done all the hard work.
Go on have a go..Jac
