September 18, 2025 at 20:10 #1740239A grand horse. I was lucky enough to be at Cheltenham to see him win both the Supreme Novices’ in ’04 and the Champion – under one of AP McCoy’s finest rides – two years later. A proper warrior. RIP.

At 27 he was the oldest Champion Hurdler, and it is great to learn that he spent his long retirement happily in the stable of Colm Holmes, who trained him. His fellow countryman Sublimity (25) is now the longest surviving Champion Hurdler, I believe. Enjoyable memories.

September 18, 2025 at 21:16 #1740245I’ll never forget him and War of Attrition battling it out up the hill, especially when they both went on to win the ultimate Cheltenham prizes. But also remember on one of our trips to Ireland listening to one of his races on the car radio. Funny how some of the races that really stick in my mind are ones I heard on the radio but didn’t actually see.
