Chapter 3 commences, God knows what 2019 brings

Decided to dip into the kitty to pay for an extra holiday this year. Seems like a good idea to treat yourself when you have a bit of luck on the Gee Gee’s.

Stakes going back to normal after a few crazy bets the last 3 months. Pretty hopeful i can get another 2 years out of it.

January 3, 2019 at 13:40 #1391191Cheers VTC.
Tried to resist the Dubai racing but gave in and had a peak. Deauville was a bit of a tempter at 7/1 but settled for a small EW bet.

A blast from the past this one. Had quite a few entries the last flat year but no show. If i remember right he was talked of as being the best horse in the stable a couple of years ago. Obviously has had problems but you never know.

Similar to the Storyteller in that he could turn up in loads of races. Looks like a few entries popping up for him lately and was running all over Delta Work in the Pertemps and he seems to be doing well over fences this year.
Trainer said his future was always going to be chasing so surely something at the Festival must be on the cards this year.

January 5, 2019 at 10:09 #1391420Good luck with the new thread Botchy and congratulations on the continued healthy profits. I’m full of admiration for anyone who has the skill and is prepared to put the effort in to turn a profit and to bear all on a public forum to boot takes some cojones!
I’m always fascinated by people’s different betting styles and follow most of the threads in this section, how would you descibe your MO? Which bets are generally the most successful in terms of strike rate and/or profitability?

Thanks Pants.

To be fair this last 2 years could not be repeated again without a massive fluke result somewhere along the way.
Hopefully i would be more than happy to break even over a year, which i think is a pretty damned good result for anyone backing horses.

I treat this thread as a journal mainly. In the past i never kept records of how much, or which horses i have backed for a particular race. Normally put a bet on and then post it here within a couple of minutes. In very rare instances i put more on, but never less and never back a horse if i don’t put it here. What’s the point of backing a horse if you do not think it is worth putting up on here is my motto.

I have no idea on this one.I don’t spend that much time on horse racing TBH. Most of the time after looking at the entries for 10 minutes on a Monday i know which horses i will be backing if the price is right. The rest of the time is maybe looking at the exchange price for 15 minutes a day. If some nutcase is offering a daft price for a couple of quid i will take it.
Sometimes i’m totally convinced i have spotted the next Dayjur and it is a total donkey. Another one might finish 2nd in a crap maiden and goes on to win the Irish Derby. So it is all about trusting your judgment on spotting potential big priced horses and following through with it at the end of the day.

Once again, good luck.
January 6, 2019 at 11:39 #1391573Lisp £5 EW @ 25/1 Betfair Hurdle
Watched that Tolworth Hurdle yesterday on TV but Grand Sancy never clicked till now. It looks like that Ascot race may well of been a pretty good race on reflection. Lisp comfortably finished ahead of that one giving it a stone in weight. Got to get entered and run in it yet, but if he does this Lisp could well look a fair old blot on the handicap.
January 6, 2019 at 20:21 #1391633Supasundae £27.50 EW @ 14/1 Champion Hurdle
All about the ground if he get’s there. 2 miles on soft 100 % here or 3 miles on Good 100% the other. Something in the middle very 50/50. Some versatile horse this fella.
January 7, 2019 at 16:47 #1391717Lord Napier £10 win @ 14/1 Lanzarote Hurdle
Probably staying on best of all in that Ascot race to finish sixth behind 4 pretty useful hurdlers. Was not really knocked about so 3 weeks should be ok over a better trip.
January 8, 2019 at 08:25 #1391780Lisp £7.50 EW @ 25/1 Betfair Hurdle
Grand Sancy been raised 6 lbs to 143 which is probably fair enough.Doubt we will see that one before Cheltenham now.

That Mohaayed Champion Hurdle bet is not looking as daft as i thought, considering he gave 19 lb and beat him 6 lengths. Problem could be that he is still well handicapped off 153.
