Can’t we get back to the books, please? Graham Bradley’s "Wayward Lad" is a good read.
September 27, 2006 at 10:38 #77720I won’t be drawn into a long debate on this but just to clarify my position and hopefully put the matter to rest –
I realise that EC and Stav both had good things to contribute. I appreciate that the discussions instigated by both will be missed and that many other forum members enjoyed reading what they had to say.
That said, I have a duty to run the forum in a responsible manner. There are very simple guidelines in place and these are there to protect the forum from legal actions and to avoid it degenerating into an abusive arena which, eventually, drives people away. I am sure we are all familiar with forums where that has been allowed to happen. I am also sure that those on the forum who are involved in the publishing of material, both traditional and on the internet, which ends up in the public domain will be more than aware of the need for diligence.
I have been extremely patient up until this point but, without getting into specific detail of what was posted or PM’d behind the scenes, suffice to say that Stav and EC left me with nowhere to go. They had both been clearly warned (a yellow card if you like) both ignored the warning and appeared to be trying to see how far they could push it. In the end they pushed it far beyond what anyone could reasonably be expected to tolerate on a public forum.
Disappointing and, as Zorro has pointed out, extremely depressing.
They won’t be reinstated, I thought long and hard about what transpired and I am even more convinced now, having let the dust settle, that it was the correct course of action. There are plenty of others on here with good things to contribute and I am sure the slack will be taken up. In fact, I think some of the nonsense that was occuring around our departed friends was actually stifling contributions.
I’m not a big fan of discussing these issues publicly on the forum, and this will be my final post on this particular matter, but just wanted to clarify things and address some of the comments on this thread.
And, as they say on the street these days, so I’m led to believe…
…END OF!!!!!!
September 27, 2006 at 11:34 #77721.. such is life and the demise of Forum characters !!
September 27, 2006 at 11:36 #77722Thanks, cormack: I respect your decision.
And thanks also for the hard work and for putting up with the hassle.
September 27, 2006 at 21:57 #77723This thread appears to have been hijacked – anyway to be positive two books i would recommend are
jeffery bernard hilarious account of his racing life called low life -god bless him – not to be missed
also roger longriggs ‘Artless Gambler’ is a nostalgic look back at the old days of smoky betting shops and shady tipsters – highly recommended
September 27, 2006 at 22:21 #77724Bloody hell!
just back from business trip (British Airways wouldnt get a good timerating)…didnt expect to se emuch more on this
But have to say i was somewhat taken aback by the wild response to what was a very harmless joke… (or maybe a serious response to a serious question :cheesy: ). I barely responded because what was said told me all we needed to know…
i was not looking to bait to get someone banned (jesus, alittle gentle banter is part of life isnt it?)but i suppose if the board ends up with people feeling they are treading on eggshells…then it will slowly die. No one wants that…
EC’s posts fpr me have been of interest and valuable debate. stav too sometimes, but why this screaming hostility when someone doesnt agree or even simply questions things, let alone makes a gentle joke?
I would happily apologise if i thought there was real offence caused, but i would be apologise to mates and workfriends all day long if it as over something as light as that frankly
On the other hand, i wasnt properly offended (as if anyone cares …sob), just a bit …mmm… suprised
September 27, 2006 at 22:30 #77725Cant work out whether we are recommending books now or slagging them (better not do that i suppose…Ill Mcoys biographer kicking my door down:o )
if recommending, horsetrader remains the most fascinating ive read and rather more predictably Seabiscuit is quite wonderful (far better than the film)
