May 24, 2024 at 22:43 #1695442Corach Rambler’s improved form in the Gold Cup made him well handicapped for the Grand National this year – despite winning it off a much lower mark in 2023. He’d therefore be racing off his new mark and in all probability poorly handicapped next year… Unless he could improve again which is highly unlikely for a horse of his age / experience…
And added to that, he’s seemingly lost his confidence / not the same jumper as he was… Even if getting back to his best – bar the Grand National – handicaps would be out and that would mean the only race with any hope of being a sufficient test of stamina at Grade 1 level is the Gold Cup… And that only in extreme conditions… And a place was the best he could hope for in that too…
In many cases I’d agree with Marlingford… Good horses are often retired before they should be – if all is well with their jumping and temperament why not go on… But suspect with Corach Rambler those two attributes are probably gone for good and – taking (nowadays) his need for an extreme test of stamina into account too… I do think in his case it is probably best to retire.
Value Is EverythingMay 27, 2024 at 11:42 #1695770Just spotted Ramses De Teillee on the non-racing agreements. Happy retirement to him.
May 28, 2024 at 17:12 #1695875Boom the groom has been retired following his run today.
Glad to see him go out in one piece
July 2, 2024 at 16:57 #1700606I didn’t see any announcement but Aldaary has clearly been retired as his new owner posted a photo of him in his new home on the “Racehorses, Where Are They Now?” Facebook group. She seems to have several ex-racers and takes them to shows. I am sure he’ll be a great addition to her team.
July 3, 2024 at 21:12 #1700677Don’t think there was an announcement regarding Aldaary but saw photos of him new home in that Facebook group. He was added to the non racing agreements today
Also noticed Tommy G on there

July 17, 2024 at 22:48 #1702039One of my favourites. Wishing him a long and happy retirement.
July 19, 2024 at 17:02 #1702119Phil Kirby’s Hubbel Bubbel was badly injured in a race a while back. Although he will never race again and might only eventually do some light hacking they have found him a lovely home where he will be a companion to another gelding.
July 19, 2024 at 18:15 #1702131That’s great news Moehat. Well done to Phil and his owner for not giving up on him.

July 20, 2024 at 14:00 #1702273These guys know their stuff, but as merely a punter and watcher of the game , what’s the thinking sending him round one more time if he’s retiring anyway , no real chance , way out of form , 60 races , 12 years old . Why not just retire him , it’s only 3 K for first and he is not winning today . Of course I hope Iam wrong and he goes out on a high and wins .
July 21, 2024 at 00:20 #1702345Castletown looked happy enough jumping round at midfield then the back , jock looked after him but never a hope beaten out of sight . Thinking about it maybe horse is enthusiastic if very slow , and maybe connections gave him once last go as clearly the economics of training him are not there anymore .
Good to see him come past the line in good health .July 21, 2024 at 18:35 #1702404Not a retirement but I have read that dear old Thomas Crapper has died in retirement
July 23, 2024 at 14:03 #1702509Rouhiya retired after a setback.
The things I want most in life are the things that I can't win.
