It is with a heavy heart that I pass on the saddest of news that Bob Rolf has passed away.
For many years, since the inception of the forum by Craig I think, Bob ran the hugely popular 4PP competition. He did this with a sense of fair play, integrity and humour. This task was onerous and time consuming but was one he did for nothing more than the pleasure it gave him to see others enjoy it.
He didn’t tend to post much on the forum on other topics but was a keen racing fan, enjoying his membership of the Owner’s Group racing club in recent years, posting on Facebook whenever they ran. Dutch Decoy was a particular favourite of Bob’s.
I never met Bob, who lived in Brighton, in person but we communicated many times and Bob was always very easy and pleasurable to deal with.
In latter years I got to see a bit more about Bob through our friendship on Facebook and saw that in younger days Bob had been a busy and popular DJ and was involved in football.
My thoughts are with Brenda Rolf and Bob’s family, who I am sure were as fond and proud of Bob as he was of them.
RIP Bob ‘Rocky’ Rolf and thank you for everything you did for this forum over the years.

June 20, 2024 at 07:28 #1698823That’s sad news. I only rarely interacted with Bob, but always found him courteous and helpful.
My most sincere condolences to his family and friends.
June 20, 2024 at 08:25 #1698828I can’t say how sad this news is to wake up to
Like Cormack I never met Bob but I was also a friend of his on Facebook.. He was a larger than life character who enjoyed a pint at his bowls club. One day he turned up at the club and all his friends had Bob Rolf masks on.
Bob will be remembered for his love of competitions
He knew his stuff too and is up there with the best of them for the times he won or made the podium
I was only exchanging messages with Bob the other week about this years Daylight Cup competition and he was looking forward to having a go
Bobs 4pp was the stand out competition that will never be rivalled… Its roll of honour list of winners stands rightly at the top of all the competitions.
Myself and Jac (Triptych) jointly took over when Bob had to look after Brenda after a illness but we didn’t have Bob’s magic sprinkle of gold dust with the added NAPS tables, 3 and 4 winners and big priced winners which I can only imagine Bob must have spent hours doing
In the cut throat world of the 2010 TRF poster of year competition where Samurai swords were regularly drawn, Bob blunted any attack away with a light sense of humour, kindness and dignity to be crowned the winner.
A deserved Champion who leaves a huge “Bob Rolf” sized hole
RIP Bob

June 20, 2024 at 11:28 #1698853I am sure like many we only know the names, but we do know them for their contributions, and Bob’s 4pp was one of the best. I still have my trophy from 2012 proudly on display.
Condolences to all concerned.
June 20, 2024 at 12:22 #1698863Although I never knew the gent any passing of a forum member present or past is always a sad occasion and makes the world a less interesting place.

Some very nice words from the elder members of this forum up thread.June 20, 2024 at 14:21 #1698893Very sad to hear this and he actually posted his first day picks in the Royal Ascot comp on Tuesday!
Such a shock and RIP BobAnd our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time
June 20, 2024 at 18:30 #1698962So sad to hear this news from Nathan this morning as I was going out.
I think Cormack and Nathan have just about summed up what Bob meant to The Racing Forum, he was there when
I joined many years ago and his enthusiasm for his 4PP competition and the time and effort he put into it for all of us to enjoy was very much appreciated…thank you Bob.All thoughts with his wife Brenda and family, he will be sadly missed.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...June 21, 2024 at 00:12 #1699028Very sorry to hear this news, his 4PP competition was of one the main things that brought me onto this forum 24 years ago now.
My sincerest condolences to his family and friends.
June 21, 2024 at 09:18 #1699057Sad news. Best wishes to his family during this difficult time.
June 21, 2024 at 09:41 #1699062I’m quite a new member on here so I don’t know too much about the members. I am admin on an engineering forum and one of our long time knowledgeable members passed away at quite an early age and although I never met him I seemed to know him and it leaves a gap.
Condolences to Bob’s family and friends. The things I want most in life are the things that I can't win.
June 21, 2024 at 10:59 #1699091Very sad news. Lovely tributes from forum members who knew him over the years.
Sincere condolences to Brenda and all family and friends.R.I.P. Bob
June 25, 2024 at 12:45 #1699900I haven’t posted on this, or any other forum for a very long time, but I was very sad to hear of the passing of Bob Rolf. When my own forum shut down many years ago, I didn’t stay in touch with the vast majority of the members, but my brother was friends with Bob Rolf on Facebook, and very occasionally I would check on Bob’s page to see how he was doing.
I don’t know how this happened, but I hadn’t looked at Bob’s Facebook page in about a year, when I suddenly decided it was time I did, I was looking at all the silly jokes he had posted on there and having a good laugh at many of them, but it turns out that that was the day he died, how strange is that?
I used to love Bob’s 4PP competition, and I was always amazed at how he maintained his enthusiasm for it all, having had some idea myself about how much work was involved in scoring such a competition.
I did meet Bob once, that was when a few Final Furlong members organised a trip to Hove Dogs, and what with that being Bob’s local track, he and at least one of his friends came along.
What else can I say? One of the really sad things about being on a forum is seeing people you regard as friends pass on, and I can think of a long list of names, a list that Bob Rolf has now sadly joined.Rest in Peace Bob
