Blue Square’s online site was down on Saturday afternoon, so no bets could be placed at Cheltenham.
They have responded today by giving a free bet, presumably to all those who tried to log in on Saturday, and in my case it was pretty generous.
I’ve noticed that my other account, with Paddy Power, also crashes occasionally on a Saturday, and is often slow on that day.
I wonder if someone out there is flooding these sites to crash them, or if the sites just aren’t up to the job on a busy day?

I think Betfair crashed the Saturday afternoon before last, it might just be a problem with the technology not anything malicious.

888 was also down so I can see one of only 4 reasons;

1. They share a hosted server – unlikely.
2. Coincidence – highly unlikely.
3. They use the same software engine behind their front end – possible should a buggy update have been rolled out.
4. Maliciousness – A big racing day & same thing happening to Blue Square… I wouldn’t rule it out.

888 also rewarded me with a free bet yesterday so fair play to them. They seem to love giving them away though in truth, just a pity their prices are so poor.

Interesting reply, Wilson. I must say I also gravitate towards the idea of some sort of sabotage, for I’m sure the site framework of such a wealthy company would not crash under load.

I repaid Blue Square’s generosity by putting my free bet on Climaxfortackle today.

Blue Sq and 888 offer seem to use the same trading platform with identical prices according to oddschecker, so if one was affected, no real surprise the other was.
