I was waiting for someone to comment on what Francome said – and I agree with him too I’m afraid. It was down to the horse that the accident occurred in the first place – it bolted, lost its head & vaulted over the rails & a fence in one go.

In my opinion it is churlish to criticise Francome for his comment – animals are not, and will not ever be, of equal status to humans. Think of Peslier’s family for Christ’s sake – the horse’s family is hardly going to be distraught with grief were he to have been imjured.

As it is, it is thankful they both appeared to escape unscathed but I do wish we’d stop having this nonsense spouted everytime something similar occurs – try telling Peslier’s mother that you were more concerned that the horse was ok. Some perspective is needed, please.

I think if you are going to pick up on something that I’ve written you could at least do me the courtesy of reading it to the best of your ability before you comment; I criticised Francome’s use of language regarding the horse “You can buy another horse any day of the week” as I thought it was insensitive – did anyone come out with this when we had to wade through the ridiculous eulogies to Best Mate and Persian Punch et al the day after their respective demises? He should have been aware that the owners and others connected with the animal could have been watching. I never suggested for one moment that the sentiment behind his comment, that a human life is more valuable than a horse’s, was untrue – in fact, it is so patently obvious as to be unworthy of comment. I felt that his use of language was ill-timed and insesnsitve and I stand by that.

Francome didnt say anything wrong there.
He knew what he meant and said it.
If you didnt see it,hear it, how can one comment on the context it was spoken in?
Anybody can take anything that anyone says and read into it absolutely anything they want.
Lovely thread though guys and girls!!

I’m absolutely with you Welsh. This whole topic got blown out of proportion with a sodding atom bomb. I’m partly to blame probably. Sorry.

Francome never likes to miss a chance to bait the "townie bleeding hearts" with his countryside "no nonsense" beliefs

I look forward to his reaction when i finally get permission (and surely the voters would love it?) to introduce Farmer Hunting. The scrounging, whinging bigots are well overdue for a cull. Pack of hungry lions would do the trick
